Re: Am I doing submissions backwards?

I get a lot of hits on this particular post, and it's often mis-quoted or misunderstood. For a beginning writer it's all very well to boldly state that he/she will only submit to pro markets because no one else is worth getting rejected by, but in practice, it doesn't work that way. Because people w...

Re: Success!

LOL, Kyle, my first analysis by Lois went better than expected. She had some nice things to say about Party, with Echoes (Redstone SF, also free on Smashwords). I don't know that she'll view this one with the same positive lenses. It's--as she would say--a very Analog-ish story, and she doesn't seem...

Re: Success!

I appear to have sold my WOTF workshop 24-hour story to Analog.

Martin already picked up on this, but, hey, that *is* my name in Duotrope.

*blush*

ETA: Hmmm, I've just realised this means I'm going to get my ear chewed by Lois Tilton. Eep.

Freebies! Amazon was so kind to make my short story collection Out of Here free after two months of trying: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004WF38RQ I've raised the price again Smashwords, so it'll probably go back up in price in about 6 weeks. /sarcasm Also, I've enrolled two of my works in the Select p...

Re: Tout your Kindle and E-Publishing!

I am a Smashwords girl. I have never bought anything from Amazon full stop (paper or ebooks) save for the one book I had to buy in order to get tagging privileges at the site. It was more expensive than at the Book Depository, and I had to pay postage. Amazon sucks eggs when you're not in the US. Bu...

Banish the tv from the house. There's nothing on there except BS anyway. Buy/borrow DVDs with your favourite series. Watch them when it suits you.

I recently published yet another novella: http://pattyjansen.files.wordpress.com/2011/09/charlottesarmy1.jpg In a far future, a fleet of ships hurtles through space on its way to a distant war. Aboard the ships is an army of artificial human soldiers, highly trained and dangerous. Doctor Charlotte W...

Re: Please note the expanded array of smilies

Ah, OK. For people with the same problem: The 'view more smilies' link opens the set of smileys twice. Once in the original window, once in a new window. Keep the new window, but press 'back' on the original window (you now have your message entry window back). Then toggle between the new window and...

Re: Please note the expanded array of smilies

er-yes. I tried to post some smilies from the view more smilies menu, but I can't. I just get a screen with all the smilies, and the message window disappears, and there is no way to go back to it or, for that matter, no way to select the smilies. My CPU is also in distinct disagreement with the smi...

Re: Success!

Congrats, Aaron.

As aside, I've pretty much given up on A&A. I love the market, but each time I submit something, they um and err about it for nine months and always reject it. Yeah, yeah, I know that means I'm close, but I'm getting sick of it. Meh.

Re: Tout your Kindle and E-Publishing!

Kindle for PC is also free. Downlaod from Amazon. They also have phone versions.

What gets my goat up is that I can't buy a lot of stuff that's been published traditionally, because of the territorial rights nonsense.

Brad, there is a thread somewhere about artists posting links to their portfolios (I started it some time before the workshop). I was wondering if it could be moved to the artists section. /nefarious plotting

Re: Tout your Kindle and E-Publishing!

Ah, I was sure there was a kind of pimp-your-ebook thread on this forum. I seem to have found it. I'm on a mission to get more reviews on Amazon/Smashwords/goodreads, and have temporarily dropped the price of all my ebooks to 99 cents. No, if you grab a book, you don't *have* to review, but I figure...

OK, this has become too annoying...

I just now, for the umpteenth time, accidentally pressed 'save' instead of 'submit'.

Can someone tell me how I can un-save and submit the post, because once 'saved' I can't find my post anymore.

Kyle, Brad, They only open for submissions at very limited times. They pay 3 cents/word which is a half-decent rate. I don't think I ever sent this story to any of the big magazines. It's just not that type of story. I can't read the ending without feeling emotional, but it's a cute story that doesn...

Since we were talking about contest rejects:

Santiago Dawn is the second story I ever sent to the contest and received a straight reject. I heard today that the Canadian semipro magazine Neo-opsis will be buying it.
