Re: Jibber Jabber - Q4 - Volume 34

Just curious. What happens when WOTF just gets too big for Dave to handle the load? Will they get a second "gate keeper"? Does he actually have slush readers or does he really glance at every single story? I can imagine that working in the past, but with the competition gaining popularity...

wotf013 And I've actually sold another story but I can't say where as yet. Okay I know this looks swollen-headed but in the first half of this year I couldn't sell a story to save my life! Re: Submitting Honorable Mentions To Magazines

I agree that in most cases, mentioning that the story you are submitting earned an HM is a definite no-no. IMHO, this is particularly true for pro and semi-pro publications, which as a rule, are not impressed by cover letters mentioning publications that are anything less than pro. Some pro editors ...

Re: How Short Is Too Short?

I'm pretty sure the shortest WOTF winning story is "The Disambiguation of Captain Shroud" by Gary Shockley. I don't have the book in front of me, but if I remember correctly, it's like two-three pages. It's definitely a flash piece. It won first place. An even shorter flash story is a fina...

Re: Contest Results

R HM SHM SF Finalist R is reject. It can mean your entry doesn't meet requirements (ie: you put your name on your manuscript) or more likely, it means your story didn't hold the interest of the judge. (there are thousands upon thousands of these) HM is honorable mention and means your story made it ...

I'm in with a former straight reject from the former judge. Dave hasn't seen it yet, and I've trimmed it quite a bit, so we'll see. I don't have much hope. It's just a place-holder as my current story isn't finished. I have to start entering earlier with better stories, darn it! Good luck, all!
