Re: VOL 35, ANTHOLOGY, WORKSHOP & GALA EVENT

Thanks Thomas & all. Man oh man, what a week! So fun & amazing on so many levels. The art reveal was cahrazy! And yes, that's a word! Getting to see & hold and sign the actual book was even cahrazier! Got fitted for my tuxedo. That's definitely a first. Lots of firsts this week. The who...

Re: Discussion: Q1 Volume 36

I doubt results will come out this week, guys. Both David Farland and Joni are here, and both seem to be quite busy with event stuff. Probably next week. Either way, I'm hoping you all get great news and are Finalists!

Re: VOL 35, ANTHOLOGY, WORKSHOP & GALA EVENT

Hey Guys, So it's day four. What a whirlwind of fun we've been having. Meeting the other writers and illustrators has been awesome. The instructors, Orson Scott Card, Tim Powers and David Farland are freakin' hilarious. They're sharing all kinds of amazing inside stories. They've almost got me belie...

Re: Moon's SUPER SECRET Bonus Challenge! Vol. 36

Two things happened to me yesterday. 1. My fantasy alt-history story, "War Dog," in the TERRA! TARA! TERROR! anthology published by Third Flatiron Publishing? It won FIRST PLACE in the Annual Critters' Readers' Poll for Best Science Fiction and Fantasy Short Story in 2018! I know some her...

Re: Moon's SUPER SECRET Bonus Challenge! Vol. 36

My winning story was 3400 words (3500 after edits.) David recommended a little more description of setting and character. I totally agree with Moon. Story determines length. Always write as tight as you can. Review each sentence. Can you say what you want in less words? Then do it!

Congrats to everyone who entered. Don't give up, and you can definitely win this thing! And y'all have a leg-up from most others, because pretty much every year, at least one forumite wins. Usually more! This is the place to be. Good luck, all!

Wow, the forum is hopping! Condolences for all who rcvd an "R." I've had my share of those! Congrats to all the HM'ers. That's awesome (and frustrating!) There seems to be a curious lack of SHMs, SFs and finalists. What could this mean? ***looks around suspiciously at the forumites who hav...

Re: Discussion: Q4 Volume 35

Thanks for the input, thewritescott, and for the article. That was definitely worth the read. My main problem is that my characters are not human, and they don't seem human. It's not that they aren't engaging, per say, but their inhumanity makes them a bit harder to empathize with. The part in the ...

Re: Discussion: Q3 Volume 35

Spiraledpen here, New to the contest and a little bit of an old schooler. Does anyone know how the mailed manuscripts get processed? I’m guessing most entries go digital. Do they get processed last? And if so, last to hear the trumpet sound (or the axe). Just a wondering... wotf017 Mailed manuscrip...
