The results for quarter one have been released! They are now posted on the blog! https://www.writersofthefuture.com/writers-of-the-future-contest-1st-quarter-2019-winners/ Looks like a massive quarter with like 225 honorable mentions! That's the most I've ever seen. Congrats all! And onto the next q...

Re: Moon's SUPER SECRET Bonus Challenge! Vol. 36
This is all great stuff, Wulf, and very helpful knowledge. I sure learned some stuff. In the same spirit of giving, I can perhaps add a little bit to all of this. I've read every WOTF volume multiple times, and have studied all the stories looking for commonalities. As a result I've come up with abo...

wotf058 yay! I am happy to get this gag off my mouth and officially say I made finalist. I can also officially say I did not win. Still makes me feel like I'm on the path. Onward! Congratudolances, Brittany. Two finalists in a row. That's amazing! You are definitely on the path. You'll get 'em next...

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!
Hey everyone, I'm new to the forum, but not to WotF. I have submitted in the past (and received an Honorable Mention), but then life happened. Listening to the Topanga Canyon story motivated me to start submitting again. (Which I just did for this quarter) :) I'm a German expat living in Spain, wit...

The latest podcast inspired me to actually register and to thank Wulf and everyone who's commented for building this resource. I submitted to Q2 for the first time, and t...

Re: How Short Is Too Short?
Hi folks, I found this thread while searching for Gary’s story. I was in volume five. I believe I still have the shortest story (though it was a finalist). It was 184 words. The Disambiguation Of Captain Shroud was brilliant. Eolake Stobblehouse Http://eolake.com Loved your story, "Just Don't,...

Re: How Short Is Too Short?
. One trend I have noticed is that recently, shorter stories have been winning more often than they used to. Another trend: there are a lot more stories for the judge to choose from. It's interesting how the contest has evolved. Preston, I’m curious, how do you know there are more stories submitted...

I doubt results will come out this week, guys. Both David Farland and Joni are here, and both seem to be quite busy with event stuff. Probably next week. Either way, I'm hoping you all get great news and are Finalists!

Two things happened to me yesterday. 1. My fantasy alt-history story, "War Dog," in the TERRA! TARA! TERROR! anthology published by Third Flatiron Publishing? It won FIRST PLACE in the Annual Critters' Readers' Poll for Best Science Fiction and Fantasy Short Story in 2018! I know some her...

Re: Moon's SUPER SECRET Bonus Challenge! Vol. 36
My winning story was 3400 words (3500 after edits.) David recommended a little more description of setting and character. I totally agree with Moon. Story determines length. Always write as tight as you can. Review each sentence. Can you say what you want in less words? Then do it!
