Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - Volume 35
Congrats, Sataris. There's almost always a forumite finalist, and you is it! Best of luck on placing! Congrats to everyone, including the Rs. I just had three rejections in a row. Ugh! Still, I keep entering every quarter because you never know until the results come in. BTW, for those who might be ...

I too am in. It's as polished as I can make it. All I can do is give it a pat on the back and tell it, "Go, little story, go! You can do it!"
Good luck, all! Don't wait until the last day. Submit!

Done with one!
It was fun.
Now for two.
Lot's to do.
Don't ask about three.
Too soon, you see.

I'm in! Hoping to break my long rejection streak with this one. Maybe I'll get to add another HM to my little collection. And maybe, just maybe...well, we'll see.
Good luck, everyone. Don't wait too long! The system always gets a bit wonky on the last day.

Re: Goodbye, Publisher's Word Count!
That's me. I'm Topanga Canyon. When I found this out, it was one of the biggest shocks of my life. It was like I had a secret identity I didn't even know about. The stories I could tell you! And I fully intend to tell them all. The good news is: I didn't give up forever. I came back, and my stories...

Re: What's a Silver Honorable Mention as opposed to a regular HM?
Yeah, I agree, an HM doesn't guarantee publication. Some forumites have mentioned that even their finalists haven't sold. Still, receiving an HM (silver or otherwise) is an undeniable good sign that the story has at least some merit. I've sold half of my HMs. I've sold a few rejects too. And yes, kn...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q4 - Volume 34
I've only re-entered the same story once. HM to reject. Still haven't broken the HM barrier, but I'm not giving up. I wonder who holds the record for most entries? Probably some people out there who have entered a hundred times.

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q4 - Volume 34
I keep forgetting to report in here, but I submitted on September 29th, and I just received the confirmation a few minutes ago, so I'm in for Quarter 4! I first entered the contest 10 years ago this quarter, and I've only missed one quarter since--this is my 40th entry wotf024 Wow, that's determina...

And there's a few people who've won both the writing contest and the illustrating contest. Though none has ever illustrated their own story. Now, that would be sweet!

Re: What does "win" mean?
Winning is placing. It means Joni asks you if you're sitting down. Words I have yet to hear. However, published finalist is not a win, but grants almost all the benefits of a win, plus you can keep entering. I love Eric James Stone's method. His Q4 was the published finalist, and around the time he...

Re: Story Titling
I love a good title. To me the perfect title is short, memorable, poetic/lyrical, original, contains concrete images, and has a double meaning, or a new perspective after reading the story. A minor sampling of some great WOFT winning titles: Adjusting the Moon, by Kerawynn Long (IX) Winter Night, Wi...

Re: How Short Is Too Short?
I'm pretty sure the shortest WOTF winning story is "The Disambiguation of Captain Shroud" by Gary Shockley. I don't have the book in front of me, but if I remember correctly, it's like two-three pages. It's definitely a flash piece. It won first place. An even shorter flash story is a fin...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q4 - Volume 34
Just curious. What happens when WOTF just gets too big for Dave to handle the load? Will they get a second "gate keeper"? Does he actually have slush readers or does he really glance at every single story? I can imagine that working in the past, but with the competition gaining popularity...

wotf013 And I've actually sold another story but I can't say where as yet. Okay I know this looks swollen-headed but in the first half of this year I couldn't sell a story to save my life! It's just like London buses - nothing for ages and then a whole lot at once. When the last of these is publish...
