Re: Sci-Fi and Fantasy Books You Enjoy?

I've actually read a few Terry Brooks and really enjoyed his style, I'll look those up. Though for now my interests are the Hannibal trilogy and for valentines day my sweetheart bought me The Stand :D .

Re: Sci-Fi and Fantasy Books You Enjoy?

Ironically, I write sci-fi because there's no sci-fi out there that I personally enjoy reading. I mean, I can wade through it, but there's no sci-fi for me, if that makes any sense. That makes perfect sense. However, it also makes those early sales challenging... Thankfully that's why I'm not makin...

Re: Sci-Fi and Fantasy Books You Enjoy?

Has anyone else found that the more they write science fiction, the less they want to read it? I'm almost exclusively onto non-fiction, mostly biographies and history, though I did just buy Bacigalupi's The Windup Girl , just to keep myself up to date of the goings-on in the SF scene today. I'm not...

You can have the world. I'm unaffected in my own little one. Safe and sound. No one can come in!

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!

Everyone's pretty nice here, and extremely helpful. I blame Mr. Brad Torgersen and his niceness. I wouldn't know much about deadlines, cry pardon, I don't really mind them at all. I just write the story I want, and submit it when it's done, damn when it's sent in. Might not sound very passionate or ...

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!

Oh I don't mind beginning to write seriously at 21, I just don't like being 21 in general :P . Every person I know wants to get me drunk to see what I'm like! lol.

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!

Hello all. I'm Michael, though my friends all call me Snow. I currently reside in Sterling, IL, recently turned 21 unfortunately, and 2011 will be the first year I enter the contest. I've loved reading and writing ever since I was a youngin', and it was a funny happenstance that I found out about th...

Re: Sci-Fi and Fantasy Books You Enjoy?

Not books, but a Sci-fi author whom I adore beyond all others -- Blake Hutchins. He and another author, Ian Christy, wrote the story behind the Metaltech series of games (Earthsiege, Earthsiege 2, Starsiege, which I and quite a few others still play today, 10 years after its creation.) Also included...

Re: Sci-Fi and Fantasy Books You Enjoy?

I love Stephen King's Dark Tower series, though I'm not exactly sure what genre you classify it as... It just proves that when you become uber-successful, you will go insane like Jack Torrence. That's not a dig on the series, as I practically worship the books, but they make you think, until you thi...

No silly, we include the music on CDs (with hard copy), or custom playlist with e-sub, and label the tracks appropriately, eg "Paragraph 8 - 12".

Oh no, I just gave away the secret to my first victory..

Re: Videos&Art to inspire SF / FANTASY ideas? Post YOURS ?!

I was just writing a dramatic scene in my current story and this song popped into my head out of nowhere. Fifth Element Diva Dance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJB5Rqc1m0Y&feature=related I love it, I love it. (Okay, the fight scene is pretty atrocious, but the song is amazing.) P.S. Snow, I...

Re: Videos&Art to inspire SF / FANTASY ideas? Post YOURS ?!

My biggest inspiration comes from, as I call it, "Epic" music, most specifically Escala and E.S. Posthumus. Escala's "Finding Beauty" : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJZduu-dKYk Makes me think about grand space battles all the way from great lumbering behemoth capital ships down...
