Re: Success!
A further update on my story "Zion" which sold to the anthology "For All Eternity: Tales of the Seven Deadly Sins." It is now available at Amazon.com. And I have seen the artwork which goes to the story. And I'm spazzing everywhere If you would like a link to it, it's in the sign...

Re: Five Minute Rant
Just as I'm about to get out of this semester and catch up on the writing ideas which are floating about in my head, I find out there is a convention at MSU regarding comic book literature. That's right. Comic Book Literature. Oh, cruel fate, why doest thou torment me with conferences that I want to...

More mixed feelings because they are paying close attention to what I'm submitting. Just one of those stories which will sell, but to whom is the question.

Re: Almost Success - The "Mixed Feelings" Thread
Got a rejection from stupefying stories yesterday, which was rejected not because it wasn't good, but because they couldn't fit it into the budget.

Re: Almost Success - The "Mixed Feelings" Thread
And this break in my graduate studies is brought to you by... A personal rejection from Tor.com. They thought the idea for my story was interesting and original, but just not right for them. Also, they said they are restructuring to get lower response times. Could be a more viable market in the futu...

Also, thank you for your congratulations. I'm hoping more information is coming about the anthology soon. I see a few acceptances, but no ToC list yet.

Well, it may not be pro, but it's still pretty good. My story, "Zion" has been selected to be part of the Anthology For All Eternity: The Seven Deadly Sins to represent Gluttony. I'll have more details and a full ToC as they come available. It's a semi-pro rate, but a sale is a sale. Espec...

Re: Almost Success - The "Mixed Feelings" Thread
A personal rejection today from AE. Duff said my story was good, but once you strip away all the style, there's not much there for him to buy it. The good part: he's "sure another editor will see it differently."

Re: Five Minute Rant
Ugg, Ideaomance just sent a rejection- not enough explanation of the world. What do they expect in an almost flash story? {yes, I know the answer to that question, but don't bother me with logic I'm busy ranting} I mean that story is barely over a thousand words, it started as a flash but I had to ...

Re: Five Minute Rant
I almost posted this in the mixed feelings thread, but the more I thought about it, the less positive I gleaned from my most recent rejection. 50 days out to DSF, second round, form reject. This brings my pro-sales total up to zero. D Have you tried AE? Most of the fiction McCourt buys us on the sh...

Re: Almost Success - The "Mixed Feelings" Thread
I did get a personal rejections that was pretty extensive on a story. It had comments from all the editors and had made it to the top round of considerations, but they didn't like the ending I think is what it comes down to. This was the second market I sent it too and this is the second personal r...

Re: Five Minute Rant
I'm going to totally recognize the ranty-ness of this thread - having exercised its power numerous times - but I wanted to pose a less discouraging view of receiving rejections quickly. I believe that with most slush stories, the editor doesn't need to think about the story before rejecting it. Thi...

Two Crits Needed
Okay, I have two stories which I would like someone to look at.
First story is a potential entry to Redstone's contest "Show us a better wary." And is about 2000 words.
Second story is approximately 3400 words and a potential BAEN contest entry.
Thanks.

I'm really sorry to hear about all the rejections. I was so sure all the hold pile people were at least HMs or higher. Rejection sucks, no doubt, but keep at it! In a bit of mixed news on a day which kind of turned out bleak to begin with, I got a rejection from Plasma Frequency. They liked my story, but rejected it because of the recent tragedy in Toronto. They were afraid it would strike a nerve. Then, I get what may be a personal rejection from Analog tod...
