Re: Tout your Kindle and E-Publishing!
Thanks everyone! This is the first time that someone else did a cover design for me. Stephan Prohaczka is pretty well known for his noir and dieselpunk art and design, having just released a collection called Diesel City. The figure on the cover is photographer Mark Krajnak of Jersey Style Photograp...

Re: Tout your Kindle and E-Publishing!
Hey peeps, Just dropped my latest. It's my first full length novel. The Troubleshooter is a blend of noir detective with dieselpunk elements and cast in a dystopian future. In shorter terms, it’s Philip Marlowe meets Blade Runner... http://api.ning.com/files/2WXJdJJnL*uJ30BDLMTlQ9hQ2IOudfDc-xWIxAVz*...

Re: PROMETHEUS Speculation/Discussion (Potential Spoilers)
I'm still mulling it over. Saw it last night. I agree that the previews basically surmise the entire film. The only thing left was sifting out the murky storyline. I enjoyed Alien as a horror movie in space, and Aliens as an action movie in space. Prometheus leaned toward the horror angle, but never...

Re: Tout your Kindle and E-Publishing!
I'm in the same boat as you with no experience with fonts and cover creation. But that shouldn't be a roadblock to getting a satisfactory cover. The thing is there are tools and resources out there that basically do the work for you. Example: for the covers to both The Aberration and City of Glass, ...

Re: Tout your Kindle and E-Publishing!
Thank you. My mission to find a glass palace or castle turned to be a complete failure, but this turned out to be a nice find. I think it works well despite not being my first choice, which goes to show what someone pointed out earlier -you may not find exactly what you have in mind, but you can alw...

Re: Total Recall Remake
Still not quite sold on this one. I saw a lot of action, but very little evidence of brains. But hey... it looks cool. If I have time to kill, I might pull the trigger on this. And the Ahnuld version is seriously dated when you watch it now. Those bulging eyes are straight out a bad cartoon...

Re: PROMETHEUS Speculation/Discussion (Potential Spoilers)
I'm actually more excited about Prometheus than The Dark Knight Rises. Every single shot of the trailer, every viral advertisement has me feeling like this will be the most completely satisfying movie for me since The Prestige -I came out of the theater with the feeling that I wanted to go right bac...

Thanks Martin. I'm not at all savvy enough to know how to build one from scratch, but I take advantage of the tools I actually know how to use.
I'm always looking for striking illustrations and stock images. The rest is duck soup...

Re: Commissioning Cover Art?
I've been wondering about this too. Not for my (limited) art skills, but because I'm always no the lookout for artists that I might want to commission for a project. Deviant drives me crazy because so many of the artists don't even bother to list their contact info, websites, or anything else to dri...

Re: Tout your Kindle and E-Publishing!
Nice job on that second cover, Amanda. The funny thing is that I'm running into some of these stories on Kindle anyway. I picked up The Unbelievers a couple of weeks back without even realizing it was by Thomas K. Carpenter. Well, without making the connection, anyway. (Great story, by the way) And ...

Thanks. It was actually quite easy to design. I purchased to rights to the stock photo, and used the cover creator on Createspace while publishing the printed version. I'm not all the techno savvy, but I fake like I know what I'm doing

Re: Tout your Kindle and E-Publishing!
I've enjoyed what I've read so far by Brad and Annie, and I'll keep moving down the list. Meanwhile I figure I'll toss my hat in the ring, starting with the Kindle version of my novella The Aberration. I entered an early version of this in the contest, but the fantasy aspect was a stretch. It's much...

Re: Tout your Kindle and E-Publishing!
This is awesome. I can't believe I haven't found this topic until now. I've been looking for books to purchase on my Kindle, and for some reason didn't think of looking here. That being said, I'll be going down the list and purchasing every title I'm interested in. Why not give my fellow writers fir...

Re: Selling my books to the Millions.
I have to say that for something that started off as a meal that featured something that looked suspiciously like an overcooked spam sandwich, I enjoyed all the encouraging responses. I just entered my finished novel in the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award contest, but am aware that the odds are rath...

Re: Science Fiction and Fantasy on TV.
Perhaps I should give Fringe a try again. I watched the first couple of episodes and was disappointed in the characters (and the fact that they just did some x-files rip-off for the pilot plot). But if it's getting the thumbs up from you guys...maybe I passed my judgment too soon. The funny thing i...

Re: Science Fiction and Fantasy on TV.
Well, THE EVENT is back and ... sadly, I'm starting to consider it a lost cause. Sci-Fi that's just too afraid of being " too sci-fi" for the wider audience? So they leave even sci-fi fans dissatisfied ... I can't figure that approach out. Disappointing. That is disappointing. I recorded ...

Re: A general statement about WOTF e-submitting
Bard, did you get an automated e-mail saying your story had been entered? if not, I would re-send it again. And CC a note to contests(at)authorservicesinc(dot)com to double-verify with Joni that your entry made it OK. Thanks. I actually did not get the automated email, so it probably didn't go thro...

Re: A general statement about WOTF e-submitting
Quick question: I just e-submitted, and had the problem that the page sort of froze up and never seemed to process. So after an Age I hit the 'refresh' button. I got the message that my manuscript was submitted. So now I wonder... is there a way to verify that the entire manuscript went through, or ...

Re: Science Fiction and Fantasy on TV.
I was riveted by The Event, only to have the network do its shuffle thing, which is almost always ultimately bad for the show. I hope it gets enough viewers to continue, it deserves that with the great writing and characters. I'm also a big Fringe fan, love the concepts, and absolutely love the char...
