Re: Defiance
I tried to give Defiance a fair shake, but it didn't take. I think I got through an episode and a half before I ended up doing something else while it was on, and missing the rest. I will say that SyFy's recent productions (well, series-wise...they still have some godawful original movies) look pret...

Re: Science Fiction and Fantasy on TV.
I'm waiting for "The Three Little Bears and the Zombie Apocalypse," or "Ocean's Seven Dwarves." Sorry, I couldn't help it. I guess it's just me who's tired of these "cleverly supernatural" twists on fairy tales or histories or whatnot. Just feels like they're trying too...

I like the toothpick one better and agree about lowering the drink level. Also, I wonder if you might want to fiddle with the title/author or toothpick color. (I might be wrong, but to me they clash.) Annnnnnd another one! This one is strictly stock art, http://evilmartin.com/images/FatherDaughter60...

Yeah, I'll add to the "pic feels medical" votes. If you don't want that, you're best off changing it.
Regardless, I really like how you have the blurb in that black bar. It breaks up the orange nicely.

Re: Science Fiction and Fantasy on TV.
I wanted to like Falling Skies. I made a point of watching it, but after the first season, I still wasn't sure one way or another. Kind of an ambivalent "meh."
So I watched the second season too. No change. I'm pretty sure it's forgettable.

That's because you don't really read what you said. You already know the gist of it.
When someone quotes you, you have to read it to see what they're responding to.

As expected. Weird story, went in a strange direction, and got oddly stream-of-consciousness. Knew it wouldn't be a good fit, but deadlines, y'know?

Brutally honest? I rarely like more than two or three stories in a short story collection. They're just not my thing; I want more meat on the bone. WotF does better than average, largely because the stories tend longer. I hate you all and everything you've done. Hey, now. That may have been over the...

If you do post an email address, do it like this: email at address dot net
That's how you often see it on blogs and such, to avoid automatic email address searchbot thingies, whatever they're actually called.

This thread is really starting to drag out and fade away. It's reminding more and more of Larry Niven's "Last Days of the Permanent Floating Riot Club", when the last few die-hards all hung around waiting for the good times to finally run out. But you know what would really liven this pla...

Re: Cover Workshop
I think you want some hint of color. The b/w image is effective and eye-catching, so I don't think you want to overdo it, but at the same time, you don't want to make it seem like you couldn't be bothered with a color picture. It comes off as cheaper, I think. With that in mind, you definitely need ...

I don't think that writers have different tastes than editors and readers as a group. I think that every writer, every editor, every reader, every market is different. If you read each magazine's "what we want and what we don't want" page, it's impressive how different their tastes are. I...
