Re: Mike Resnick's journey
Uh...not all of us think those are radical stands. :-) Mike LOL, they were radical to me when I first started hearing them... and they're radical still in terms of what is 'norm' to many of the others in terms of 'how to break in to publishing', especially in my local groups. But I'm convinced radi...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29
My rejection was in this first flush. I still think my story was a good one, but maybe the topic isn't right for the contest. Anyway, it's already headed to some other slush pile ;) Good luck to the rest of you!

Mike Resnick's journey
I know he espouses some pretty radical stands on the business of writing, but no one can deny that he's been phenomenally successful (which is what I am so inspired by, aside from his short stories I've read to dissect for technique). His advice about approaching agents at conferences is pretty bold...

I hope y'all know how bad it irritates me that I misspelled commiserate the first time I used it either this morning or last night...can't remember now (been a long day). Many, many posts down the line.
If I have time to scroll back that far I will go edit it out.

I like having a thread where we can go to see results right off without a lot of skimming. Thanks Steffenwolf. I also like having THIS thread, where we can lament and comisserate together ;)

Re: Q1 Volume 29
The rejections are really rolling in now on Duotrope. Every email I get will be a dread-filled occasion now until I know one way or the other how mine fared (and I get a lot of blog associated email so I may just roll over dead from dread, hahaha).

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one checking Duotrope from time to time these days for word on Q1. There's one other hopeful of mine that sucks me to that addicting site for now, too, but I'm getting back to editing my novel now and maybe that will keep me distracted.

Annie, just left you seven dragons. (They look like rockets to me, why do they call them dragons?) LOVED The List.
edit: Ah. Just looked at them (the 'rocket' dragons) on the computer rather than my iPhone. Makes more sense now.

That's a great feeling. It's how I feel about mine, too, and it just seems I'm less worried about how it's received because of that. Even if it doesn't make it here, there's bound to be a good home for it elsewhere.

Are you sure that second paragraph wasn't part of a form letter that just didn't get updated for the Q1 responses? It sounds like a timetable for final results for Q4, not Q1... *I thought I saw a head-scratching smilie here somewhere*...

I'd just like to add my little concern on King's On Writing : he makes some comment about purgatory being filled with Chicken Soup for the Soul and Romance books... LOL. I've refrained from commenting on this thread because I'd just sound like a grinch or antisocial or something. But my writing lif...

I haven't submitted mine yet because if I do, that's when I'll think of something I need to change about it. It's finished and polished to the best of my ability, but since I still have a few weeks to run it past my crit group for feedback, I think I'll hold onto it a little longer. We only can read...

Re: Q1 Volume 29
I think I'm finally finished with mine. After reading two of the anthologies, XXVI and XXVII, I still can't say whether mine is a fit or not. What I *can* say is that I really like this story and even if it doesn't net anything here, I'm fairly sure it'll find a home somewhere. Now I'm off to catch ...

I got an email today from Buzzy Multimedia telling me they've accepted my short story after I'd rewritten and resubmitted :) So now they'll assign me an editor and we'll bring it to whatever shape they want. Rebecca, do you have a picture on your website or blog? If so, just go to it and copy that url. If not, well, if you have a pic and want to send it to me, I'll put it on a private page on my site and you can link to it there.
