Re: Board PHP problems
I'm having this problem as of the last few days, trying to get into my private messages. I can't read them at all right now, and those same error messages in the original post are at the top of the screen.

Re: First Four-Fifty Critique Exchanges
Hello! Just getting back to the forum after a long absence. I have a story that all my first readers tell me is the best I've ever written, but the last time I submitted it got a flat reject. A personal rejection from another market suggested the problem is in the opening, so I'd love to do a first-...

Re: Patreon, and donating to magazines
My issue would be, with magazines, that Patreon is designed for the artist. It's supposed to be a way to support artists you like. For example, I automatically donate a bit to Peter Hollens every time he puts out a music video. I also know of those who produce Youtube Let's Plays and Twitch streamer...

Rejected. :( Kind of expected it, though. I finished so close to the deadline that I didn't even have time to do a second draft.

Nice going, B.J.! wotf010 (And aha! A NAME!) Unless B.J. is on his birth certificate, we still don't have a name. wotf23 The only people who call me Basil are doctors and the government. Even the bank calls me B.J., so it's more my name than anything else. :) But seriously, way to go! I know you've...

I just sold a story to Aurora Wolf, my first sale ever! It's set to be published on their website on June 1st.

Rejection. Not surprised, it was a very minor revision of a previous rejection. Now, it's off to a new market.

Re: Brad Torgersen interview
Awesome interview. And it's great to see someone as successful as Brad is a 'burster', as he says. I'm the same way. I keep struggling to write constantly, as authors like DWS suggest, but my writing comes in bursts as well. I'll work on a short story, usually for about 2 weeks to a month, then I go...

I got an HM, and I'm shocked by it. During a recent re-read I noticed the story was missing much of anything in the way of description.

Well, I've been hoping to do so for months, but my HM is finally for sale! Now I'm going to be lazy and copy my book info from my own website. ;) http://bjbaye.com/images/cover3-medic.jpg A young boy is all that stands between a commando team from Mars and a deadly attack on Earth’s orbital station....

Thanks! I hadn't even thought to do a thumbnail comparison. So yeah, looks like the white is the best choice.

Oh, this is an image you made? Very cool. Thanks! I think Soul Mirror pointed out before that the character is looking off screen. What about a screen shot from a different angle, so that the character is looking at us? Tried that, but don't really like the result: http://bjbaye.com/images/cover2.j...

I definitely would love to see a thread for poetry, especially if it covered some of the basics. I zoned out when we were taught poetry in school, because at the time it was 'boring'.

Nope. I just got a rejection too and they specifically said it did not make it through to the final round. So, congratulations on making it that far, at least!

Ok, thanks! :) I'll either try to add some desperation to this image, in his face and hands, or start something from scratch if I can't manage that.

Re: Cover Workshop
Ok, took the advice of zooming the image out, and of picking a font for my byline and one for title. I tried to make them a little more visually interesting based on some covers I've seen looking at the kindle bestseller list. Also followed Soulmirror's advice and made my title larger than the bylin...

Re: Success!
By the way, I keep seeing reference to the 15th for the Penumbra Space Opera issue deadline, but their submissions page lists the 31st, which is in keeping with how the calls have run in the past. Do we know where the 15th came from? (EDITED) Actually, I see they actually have two different dates l...

Re: Cover Workshop
Thank you both! Very helpful. I'll probably start from scratch and come up with a different image, one that has a bit more, as you said, dramatic content, so just to clarify that if zoomed out a little, the kid is floating along a corridor. As for font, I'm really not sure what I should be looking f...

Ok, I tried a few months ago but didn't get much chance to work on it at the time. Now, I'm back to trying to put together a cover. This is my second attempt. (I know this isn't the right aspect ratio for an ebook cover, at least according to Amazon. I didn't think to check until after it was done, ...
