Re: Jibber Jabber - Q3 - Volume 34

5am. Sitting at my computer, editing my story. Sigh. I do hope the electronic submission system is open or Joni will explode. I bet they get as many entries on the last day as they do the 89 other days. 3:15 am. About to get back to writing the end of my story in 15 minutes. And then I get to start...

And Greenroom, she needs to crow big time, too. The results for the IGMS readers' poll are in--and my story "Sojourn for Ephah" (which was also a finalist in WotF) took second place! Second place to none other that "The Butcher of Londinium"! Congrats, Greenroom! Thanks, Marina!...

Re: Five Minute Rant

I keep seeing references to Codex and IGMS. What is the connection? (I know what both are, just wondering what the connection is). I'd hazard the following guess: One of the ways to qualify for Codex is to attend certain workshops. I'm not sure of the full list of them, but I know OSC's Bootcamp is...

wotf006 I do get to share an issue with Nick! Yes! And... I'm doubly excited to follow in greenroom's steps. Sojourn for Ephah is the cover story for issue 30: http://www.intergalacticmedicineshow.com/ And Eric Wilkerson's illustration is beautiful! I'm incredibly honored. The illustration is beaut...

Re: Five Minute Rant

IGMS has this weird fasttrack submission option--where if you've been to the Orson Scott Card Boot Camp Workshop, you go into a different queue and your story is read faster. Most rejections on Duotrope are in the 32-36 day ball park, but occasionally there's a response at 5-9 days. The short respo...

Hey Strycher,

195 days, but there was a re-write request and other delays. It's an outlier for IGMS.

Congrats Nick!

My acceptance from IGMS (for the story currently up there) came at 236 days. Also an outlier.

Example: Short story - characters arrive in exotic locale pursued by bad guys. Much sneaking ensues followed by a covert meeting with a contact that is interrupted when the bad guys attack. Fight scene! Little bit of denouement (finish conversation with covert contact), then the characters escape i...

Re: Is this a 'wandering' opening?

I would be interested in this too. Throughout the discussion on this thread, I was thinking that the prologue to A Game of Thrones was wandering, but when I went back to reread it, I noticed that there is a lot of dialog. The very first sentence is dialog. Would that preclude wandering or can you w...

Isn't that less Semi's than usual?

One of those 40 lines looks to be a Q1 personal rejection (given how many days out it was). But 39 is still huge! I now think a third of the responses must have been sent out yesterday.
