Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - Volume 34

Guys, this quarter I resubmitted my first ever WOTF entry, which received a first round rejection. At the time I was devastated, thinking that a first round rejection must be a reflection of my talent. Obviously I know better now, and in most ways I have the forum to thank for that. The piece has be...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q2 - Volume 34

I'm really sorry about your friend, J'Nae. I have no experience on writing while grieving, but I will say that don't beat yourself up if you try, but find you really can't write yet. It's ok to skip a quarter.

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q4 - Volume 33

Imagination Vortex - FYI, I withdrew my entry for Q4. So unless there is a mix up, I'm out. I'm out. This was by far my best story, so after three HMs in a row... a very confusing result. Oh well, I've already resubmitted elsewhere. We'll see if anyone else likes it. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Your story w...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - Volume 34

I begin to tire of re-reading my story. I probably couldn't spot a mistake if it jumped up and bit me. Hey, it's the 4th of October already. Should I submit now or not? Hmm. Decisions, decisions. Send it out! You might get some more good ideas, and perhaps your passion will ignite when you have to ...

Update from the judge himself:

He is aiming to get this quarter judged a little earlier than the previous quarters: by the 1st November (!).

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q4 - Volume 33

I chose the second option. A confirmation immediately appeared in my inbox from Joni, so closely on the heels of the 'submit' button that I'm not sure which vector it came through. Fingers crossed it all works out! At least they definitely have it. On a more cheery note: I WAS ON A PANEL WITH DAVE Y...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q4 - Volume 33

PANIC STATIONS. I submitted to Joni, using her joni author services dl, and I haven't heard back with a confirmation. However, at the same time I also responded to her email about my Silver, which is it turns out is on the straight author services email. I DID get a response from this. And now I hea...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q4 - Volume 33

Oh god. It says the applications are closed. It's 3pm here in GM10+ (Sydney) on the 30th and they've closed down. I've emailed Joni (I think?), but now I'm seriously worried. Any advice? I'm having this problem too :( I'll email Joni. But Jeremy, I think we'll have to resign ourselves to a long and...

Good luck JVashley and Jabrwalk, and anyone else waiting. My fingers are crossed for you. You must be going INSANE right now.

At risk of fanning the potentially destructive flames of hope, I want to say that surely this means that you are a finalist! Or semi finalist at least.

Re: CONFLUX - a chance to meet Dave

Given recent discussion on the threads, I might ask Dave what Silver HMs means to him.

I've seen his kicks on Rejections, and Honourable Mentions, but not on Silver HM. Actually, I haven't seen anything on Semi-Finalist either. I vaguely remember that Finalist means "You are publishable!"

Last minute Q4 critique - 9,000 word urban fantasy

Hi! I'm trying to turn my Q2 R into something more respectable. I've done a ton of work on it over the last week, but I'm hoping someone might be interested in a last minute exchange/look over. My own experience in critiquing is limited, but I am more than happy to give it a go. I intend to join Cri...

CONFLUX - a chance to meet Dave

Hi guys, I am SUPER excited, because the weekend after next is Conflux, an Australian Spec fic convention. And guess who is going to be there??? Yes. YES! Dave Farland. He is giving a few presentations/interviews over the course of the weekend. It is like the universe *wants* me to win this thing. (...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q4 - Volume 33

If your beta readers really like it to, then why not? If it was an early round R then Dave only read the first page or two, so a stronger hook and he's off to the races this time around. I've made substantial changes to the first few pages. It now has a faster pace and be a bit less explain-y. Here...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q4 - Volume 33

I have other stories I could submit, but I'm thinking about tweaking my 2nd quarter R. I really believe in the story, I think maybe it just didn't have a strong enough hook.

Am I crazy?

This Thursday just got a whole lot scarier. Don't forget that Dave's in Australia now. And Australian Thursday is only 17 hours away ... But I suspect he'll actually be aiming for Australian Friday so that he can enjoy his weekend site seeing. I agree with the folks who predict more Rs. Looking at ...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q4 - Volume 33

Another technique I've heard for catching things is reading your story backwards but it is not something I've tried. I've never heard of this before! Do you read it back by chapter, paragraph, sentence or word? I have my husband and a few friends read over my work, but I have been thinking about gi...

Hi RHB! It's nice to see another Aussie on the boards. I think there might be a few others floating around the place, but I'm not sure who they are exactly. That activation issue is frustrating, isn't it? If it doesn't get fixed soon, all the existing members will win or pro out and there will be no...
