"He stood on a small knoll, breeze blowing in, and west where the sun was setting in hues of red and orange."
That's about equal to the error I found in my Q2. Ugh!

Glenn,
Yes, sometimes Joni can't reach someone or a phone # has changed... In my previous quarter, M.T. Chambers didn't know he was a finalist until after the list came out. He was backpacking in Asia!
However, I do strongly believe that the 8 finalists are picked. When we see one, Joni has them all.

Opened my story this morning to check a certain line and found a typo. I know one typo isn't a deal breaker, but damn, it was right there waiting for me. Oh well, less twitching is good, right?

Re: Tim Power's "Power Reading List"
Very cool list! I started out OK, but faded in the latter half of the (sci-fi) list. I think I will go get Neuromancer. Seems time. Interesting about The Shining. I wonder why. I've been discussing "character" again with a writer friend, and it seems that might fall under that category? An...

This article makes me want to submit again.
I take rejections pretty hard, (read: personally) which I know six ways from Sunday that I'm not supposed to do, but I do anyway.
But reading this helps.

If I start the thread, I post the dates in big letters/numbers.
Check the first post in the quarterly threads.
It is confusing at first, but you'll get used to it.
Or maybe you wont have to.

Counted!
I don't have an idea yet either, but I'm hoping to workshop idea ideas.
Magic is definitely out of my comfort zone. I literally don't think I have one magic story.
A flash, maybe, but nothing over 1k.

Loglines are fluid. They are pitches in Hollywood, I suppose, but for me, they help focus a story in a way unique unto themselves. If you're in doubt, create a logline. Watch what happens. :)

I just noticed that my signature says 2shm. I sold one, so what of the other?
It's sitting on my hard drive. Ha!
I think I'll run it past my critique heavy-hitters and see what they think.
If they didn't already read it. That might be why it did that well to begin with.

Nope.
Nor can it be over 68 pages of courier new 12 pt 1.5" margins.
(someone correct me if I'm wrong on the #s)
Reason: 250 words per page (printed) x 68 = 17000

Fascinating that he'd want to see it again. I would think he'd think, oh, I read this already. But he must be pro enough to remove himself from any previous bias and re-read. Fascinating. Makes me want to get more SHM. Ha!

Re: What's a Silver Honorable Mention as opposed to a regular HM?
I'd also like to suggest, and I apologize if this is in the previous pages, but a SHM is very nearly a S-F. Semis are stories that are almost finalists, but ones that Dave can viably critique. Something he can put his finger on and give suggestions on. * With mine he suggested cutting the last 3-4 p...
