Re: What's a good conversion rate when submitting to markets
I do not have proof of this, but suspect this to be true. Two things help your submission. One, having some previous creds in your cover letter (this guy's stories can't be too bad, so and so bought one) and two, submitting to that market before (This is the fifth story from this guy this year. He'...

Re: What's a good conversion rate when submitting to markets
I guess you'd call it a conversion rate. At least in direct marketing you would... The markets I'm submitting to accept between half a percent and a percent of submitted stories. As a writer, what is a good conversion rate? Three percent of your submissions accepted? Ten percent? I don't mean three...

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!
Welcome back, RHB! I was gone for a few years (three) as well. Feels good to be back. Life swept me away for a while. Took some unexpected turns, and wrote a few novels. Trying to get back into the swing of short stories again and making a more concerted effort to get them published. Good luck to yo...

Re: WOTF simultaneous submissions
I actually write sales copy for a living. Been doing it full-time since 2009. That's how I know I need more credibility, proof elements. Over the years I've learned that a strong proof element is GOLD because it can't be manufactured by a copywriter. It's best when you couple a powerful proof eleme...

Re: WOTF simultaneous submissions
I've never thought that of either of them. The Submissions Grinder lists both as not accepting simsubs. I assume "no simsubs, no multisubs" as the default, to be honest, as it's such a commonly held position, and there's little to gain (a publication three months sooner than otherwise) an...

Re: WOTF simultaneous submissions
If you're concerned with the amount of time that WOTF might have your submission, you can submit towards the end of a quarter, rather than the start.
That's what I do.

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29
Everything has changed. Maybe Thursdays no longer exist. And since today is Thursday for many of us, we're stuck in a parallel universe where every day is Thursday and never any results. Of course, being in this parallel universe, we *think* there are other days of the week, but really, they're all...

Read all the Dune books by end of high school and I've seen the David Lynch Dune movie too many times to count, though it's been ages since I watched it.
