Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29

I'm long out of the race but back when I got my rejection I reported that, after circulating my Q1 submission to other markets, The Colored Lens said they would hold it for voting. Well, they told me last week that they want to publish it. Exciting! Still, a small, non-pro market but they are pretty...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29

Mine got rejected this past week and I promptly submitted it to The Colored Lens. They aren't pro, and don't pay much at all, but they are relatively hard to get into (~1% on Duotrope) and I've already piled up a ton of rejections for them. Long story short, they just told me they really like the st...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29

Got a rejection. Kinda bummed, was expecting/hoping for more. I know I'm new to the contest but I have been writing for a while and felt strongly about the story.

On to the next oneI. Good luck to everyone else!

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29

Days like this, I get pissed off whenever anyone emails me and makes my heart skip a beat when I see that blinking (1) on my Gmail tab. Oh well. This is why you should sign up for multiple ailing lists like living social and writer's digest and groupon so that you receive 100 emails a day and becom...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29

I'm still in as well, though Duotrope says that the latest submission reported was December 28 and I definitely sent mine right before going out for a New Year's celebration, so I could just be in the yet-to-be-looked-at-last-minute pile. Also, good to know lobsters don't scream. That always bothere...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29

Sometimes a clever trick is to shove the sounds before the dialogue. Like 'Frank groaned. "Really..."' And just omit the speech tag altogether! You can substitute expressions/sounds/gestures to animate the character instead of melding it with the dialogue or something. This has become my ...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29

I subbed on the very last day of the quarter, so my wait time at Duotrope is sitting at 76 days. Since all the rejections so far have been for people waiting 87+ days, I figure KD just hasn't gotten to my story yet. I also subbed (e-subbed) on the last day, and I also figure that -- though there ma...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29

Seems that the rejections are going out in order of submissions received (as none of them are 60~ day rejections), which makes sense.

Also means I can't infer anything from a lack of email until the very end of rejection mailings.

How long is the period usually? Over a few days or a few weeks?

Re: Q1 Volume 29

Hi all, This last quarter was my first submission. Excited! My last submission clearly fit into science fiction, but a story I'm working for to apply to Clarion West is more horror (about a guy battling an infection) and since I've worked so hard on it, I thought it might be worth trying to submit i...
