Re: Q4 swap - 7,500 words
Sorry, Rick, I've only just seen your post -- I've been busy on my final draft. Yes, I'm afraid it's too close to the deadline now. I'd be delighted to swap stories next quarter if that works for you?
Good luck with Q4.

Q4 swap - 7,500 words
Is anyone up for a critique exchange for Q4? I'd be looking for feedback by the end of this week (Sun 21 Sept), and I'd be able to get comments to you within the same timescale. I take part in an offline writers' group so I'm used to reading critically and providing feedback. I haven't traded a crit...

Re: Analog Submissions
Thanks everyone! It's still a rejection, but it's good to feel I'm getting close. I've already sent the story out to another market.
Good luck to all of you still waiting to hear.

Re: Analog Submissions
Just got a rejection, at 339 days. It was polite, apologetic, came from Trevor Quachri, and included the encouraging line "I think it's a good story, and I very strongly considered it for ANALOG". Would I submit to Analog again? Hell, yes! ...just not with anything that I mind being out of...

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!
Welcome and good luck to all the new users (far too many to list since the last time I checked in here!). I'm ashamed to say I'd never heard of Čapek **hangs head** but a quick google has fixed that. He (with his brother) invented the word "robot"? That's amazing. I've added Rossum's Unive...

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!
Welcome, Gio -- good to see another Edinburgher on here. The city's not quite flooded out (and it isn't even raining today, although there are ominous storm clouds gathering) so you're safe to come home if the heat gets too much! And, welcome to the earlier newcomers I missed. Good luck with your wr...

Yes, congrats Tina, Marina and Steve. Well done! And, good luck next time to the finalists who didn't make it. I like the quote from Kevin J. Anderson in the press release -- you certainly didn't make it easy for the judges! They were an exceptional group of stories this quarter. It was hard to choo...

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!
Callahan's Cross-Time Saloon it is!
It doesn't look as if it's in print in the UK... which is where I'm really lucky to have a local SFF bookshop that stocks (and will order) US imports. That failing, it's available for Kindle.

Hello fellow newbies! Travis, I'm glad to see it's not just me that finds the quarter system confusing! It's good Tina, Martin and co. are here to straighten us out. By the way, Spider Robinson is an author I've heard of but never read. Would anyone care to recommend which of his books would make a ...

Welcome aboard, Helen! You're not planning a Q3 entry? Darn. I've been struggling to get the hang of which quarter is which. In my mind, the quarter ending in a few days was Q3. I've just looked at the rules again and I realise I'm completely wrong. So... I am planning a Q3 entry (and I haven't eve...

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!
Hello! I made my first submission to Writers of the Future yesterday. It's the longest short story I've written yet -- although still nowhere near the 17,000 limit -- and I had a lot of fun working on it. Now I need to concentrate on my entry for Q4, make progress on my other writing projects, and t...
