Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!

Welcome to all the new! Some of you have some credits behind you, and some are submitting stories for the first time ever, it appears. Whatever the case, we're all equal here. We're trying to write the best darned story we can, and win this contest with it! Be sure to post in the thread of the quart...

Re: Four in Thirty-Five (4 in 35!)

I would add that sending stories to a number of outlets is a good way to reduce size of butterflies connected with any particular outlet. I got a rejection this morning, to which my reaction was "What on Earth did I send to them?" wotf013 Agreed. The more you can turn your stories after t...

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!

Hi everyone, My name is Tom. I just discovered WOTF this year, and submitted for the first time in March. It was exhilarating to hit the submit button the first time! I've never entered any writing contests before and I just started writing fantasy last year (I started writing one day over my lunch...

Welcome to all the new members! Be sure to enter the discussions under each quarter so we know you are here. And be sure you submit something each quarter! Don't judge your own work, let Dave be the judge!

Cheers!

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q4 - Volume 34

Congratulations to all those that made the deadline. Deadlines are pressure, but they are also motivation to finish, and as a friend in the tailoring industry once told me, their favorite saying is, "Done is beautiful." Congrats to the forumite that submitted after a five year hiatus. Subm...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q3 - Volume 34

Just heard back from Joni. I'm not a winner, but they did ask to hold my story for potential inclusion in the anthology. Also, Tim Powers apparently loved it, so I'm pretty darn geeked about that. wotf007 Disgruntled Peony, very sorry, we were rooting for you. Now read what I said above to Alicia. ...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q3 - Volume 34

I just heard from Joni. HM for me. wotf014 After coming so close in the past, this was a letdown, as I thought this one had a better chance than my others. Re: Jibber Jabber - Q4 - Volume 34

16,000 words and I still have three more scenes to write! lol No way this is gonna be ready in time for Q4. Probably rolling over into Q1. <Sigh>, Morgan That, alas, is always my problem. It's a good problem if you're a novelist, it means you have big stories in you. Bad problem for short story wri...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q3 - Volume 34

I wrote to Joni today after it appeared everyone had been pulled out of the brine except me. I'm officially pickled now with an HM! Actually, I don't feel too bad about this. The new story I had written for Q3 finished out on the last day at 21,000 actual words (not Dave count or I'd really be off t...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q4 - Volume 34

Okay decided on what story. Not any of the ones I had been thinking about referenced in earlier posts. But for some reason this one just popped into my head and I started rewriting the opening. I have two versions of the opening and now this third one. Evidently the one I like most is too slow and ...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q3 - Volume 34

I'm going to take a stab at this. No semi-finalists are listed. I've noted personally that semis come later, as Joni matches up your notice with Dave's critique. So it's possible if you're still waiting, you could be a semi. Or your entry could have gotten lost. Or you have a slow email server. Or a...

Twitching you say? Just wait 'til someone tells you about "Thursdays." Educate me, what's the big deal with thursdays? Today is thursday. Turns up Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries." Because lightning, as a general rule, seems to like Thursdays. After you've been struck a few doze...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q2 - Volume 34

I should add about the post above, the story with AJ was a "quarter finalist," the old term for semis. This was the early days of WOTF. The letter from AJ came with no critique, just personal congratulations I had reached the top .1% that quarter. Now semis get critiques, disqualifying the...
