Re: Past Quarter Statistics

"Several thousand," per quarter, and that's a direct quote. Wow that's discouraging, but also good for the contest I suppose. Do you think they will be altering the judging process at all in the future to make the task of the coordinating judge a bit easier? Thousands of submissions are a...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q2 - Volume 34

I should add about the post above, the story with AJ was a "quarter finalist," the old term for semis. This was the early days of WOTF. The letter from AJ came with no critique, just personal congratulations I had reached the top .1% that quarter. Now semis get critiques, disqualifying the...

First, congratulations to those that got honors. It means you are writing at a level that an NYT bestselling author feels obligated to acknowledge. It's the equivalent of an editor at a pro magazine saying, "This one didn't quite do it for me, alas, but please send me your next." Well don...

Conga rats dancing for you, Amy! Sorry it's not over yet; best wishes on the judges recognizing your skills. Either way, it's a hard won honor, and kudos to you! Re: Jibber Jabber - Q3 - Volume 34

So it was Friday, June 30th, and I wrapped up my fresh story for Q3 with plenty of time to spare, a healthy thirteen minutes before midnight. Let's see, before I push SUBMIT, better check the word count. 20,500? 20,500??? Einstein, how could I have been so careless??? I am sure in the future you can...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q2 - Volume 34

To those in the first wave, rejection sucks. Condolences. But it took courage to submit, and courage to stand with your peers and post your results. Especially if you're a first timer. The rest of us have gotten used to being stripped naked and washed down in front of the barracks with a firehose. I...

It never sprinkles notices. Like Morton Salt, when it rains, it pours. You'll know. : )

Eveyone will be saying, "Why are you crying?" And you'll reply, "I'm not crying, it's all this damn salt pouring down from the sky! Curse you, Morton!" : )

Rejection as well. Revised resub of HM didn't work for me. I fear the second time around feels too familiar to Dave, as a lot of the excitement to a story is the experience of "wow, this is new."

Best of success to those still in. Fortune favor the brave.
