Re: Success!
It's good you won the contest first, then. Before you started your pro spree.

Re: 2016 Campbell Award
I think I was added within 12 hours. First I emailed David Walton to double-check my eligibility. After he replied, I filled out the form since he didn't actually say I would be added to the list. He just confirmed my eligibility. So filling out the form may have been unnecessary in my case. I don't...

Re: 2016 Campbell Award
Thanks for pointing it out, George. I have to double check, but I think my apocalypse story from 2014 would count. So I might as well get in for my second year, even if it’s a long shot.

Re: Success!
Congratulations, Matt. Looks like I'm in good company. I also have a 53 day acceptance from cosmic. Minor edits required. Don't know what they are yet. So I haven't counted my chickens yet either.

Re: Success!
Just sent my edits for a flash piece accepted by Splickety Prime. For their “news that never happened” issue.
Crossing my fingers for a piece being held for consideration elsewhere.
A nice little start to 2016.

Nice story, Aaron.
I've noticed it can be hard to do straight up dialogue, but yours works very well.

Re: Chappy Fiction Time Travel Anthology
I didn’t think I would have an entry for the anthology, but ended up whipping off a flash piece before Christmas. Pretty happy with it actually. When I went back to the website, I saw the link for ‘Today I Am Paul’. A great story, Martin. Wouldn’t be surprised to see it on the finalist lists next ye...

Re: Anyone know about Neoverse writing competition?
I agree, the terms of the contest are much improved now. The old ones left a bad taste in my mouth.

Re: F&SF has a new editor--and now does e-subs!
I've seen their submission system at other magazines, so I assume it's third-party. The client controls what shows up in the options box. For F&SF it's just happens to be one option. Yes, F&SF has been considered a professional market by the contest and SFWA for a long time. I'm just a littl...

A Lot of Naughty
I have a dark fantasy, about 5000 words, in final revisions. Finale is explicit. A lot of magazines say they accept some level of explicitness, as long as it’s essential to the story, which in this case it is, but it’s probably more than most will accept. Curious what you think is the best semipro o...

Re: Five Minute Rant
The “NO” smart quotes is kind of annoying. In my version, word 2007, you have to click the MS Office button > go into Word options > click Proofing > AutoCorrect options > Autoformat as you type > clear the box for the straight quotes to smart quotes. Then you can use the find and replace function t...

Re: Five Minute Rant
I find the most reliable way to remove wonky formatting is to use the nuclear method described in the Smashwords Style Guide. You lose centering and italics/underlining but for submitting to daily science fiction the former doesn't matter. You lose centering anyway. If you have a lot of italics, tho...
