Re: Analog Submissions

Got my rejection today too. 125 days.

Do you think they're starting to catch up on the slushpile?

Re: Analog Submissions

Well, shoot. I guess I won't be submitting to that market again for a while. And I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing that the story tied up there isn't one of my better ones.

Re: Analog Submissions

FWIW, still no word on my query sent on Friday. I can't say that I don't want to be impatient, because the ship has set sail on that one. I just don't want to seem impatient. Easier said than done. wotf001 Still waiting at 287 days. I figure I'll send query #3 at 300 days. Wait, you sent a story to...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29

Mine was in the 15,000 word range, first part of a novel. Genre-wise, it falls into space opera / science fiction romance, kind of like C.J. Cherryh or Lois McMaster Bujold. A lot of my alpha readers say it reminds them of the "Our Mrs. Reynolds" episode of Firefly. I'll be publishing it i...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29

Well, even if Dave did "hate" our stories, he's just one reader--an important reader, especially in terms of this contest, but not the only one. I expect to see a lot of you move on and have great success elsewhere. Good luck and keep writing! Keep writing is a definite. Whether for this ...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29

I doubt it means DF "hated" our stories. Probably he just read through the hold pile to select the finalists, and because the rest of the contest was so far behind, he just gave all the others a form rejection in order to move on more quickly to the other quarters. I agree, though--after a...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29

Just received this email: Dear Entrant, Your story has now been judged and did not win or place in the 1st quarter. Even though you have never had to wait for results in order to submit for the next quarter, this hopefully gives you incentive to submit again. The more often you enter, the better cha...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29

You would be notified by e-mail, regular mail, or not at all. So in other words, NNiNN? I think they would at least try to email the people they couldn't contact by phone...but I have no idea. I didn't get a call, but I'm also unreachable by phone right now. No email either, but... Gah! Just give u...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29

I also loved Mistborn. Didn't finish Warbreaker, though...maybe I'm just not much of an epic fantasy person. But give me something by David Gemmell, and I'll squee like an anime fangirl. It isn't science fiction, but I just recently finished The Killer Angels by Michael Shaara. Awesome, awesome book...
