Re: Experimenting with Exercises from Wulf's Super Secrets
Thanks so much for the critique Wulf! This started While I was gone for awhile a few months back I do not know how it works This started with Wulf's latest super secret, which is avoid saidisms, and use beats when needed. (Random question: Why LDWriter 2 ? Is there a LDWriter1? I didn't know it was...

Re: Discussion: Q3 Volume 37
Just finished first draft of my Q3 entry!! I was so excited I had to share. Now on to my first out load reading (starts putting on body armor to prepare myself for all the gut punches my own fists may try to deliver to my core as I discover all the errors) Very good there on the first draft that is...

Re: Professional Editor for WOTF piece?
I have paid an editor more than once, more than three for that matter but most of the time not. So far it has been no difference with Dave's responses so I am not inclined to spend the money.

Sorry to hear that LDWriter. Hang in there.
Thanks, this, or Q2's story, was not one of my best but the other one I was expecting more from.

Very good and good success with it, once it is fixed. It will be at least a good story

Okay, I am in. Early for me but the story is done and ready. Sent it to F&SF and thought about Lightspeed but the last couple of years I have not been able to catch them while they were open. If they are open at all. Which is a shame. He more than likely does not realize it but he by far he has ...

Thanks. Old age maybe, but this is the second or third time that I got mixed up on which quarter had sent out rejections-rejections for me anyway. Maybe not enough time here commenting.

To markets in general: still have some hope I can sell another story. A couple of editors have liked a story or two but they were not buying. But neither case it is what writers of short stories do.

Okay This story is off. I am not sure how long it will be to get a response. A day-three weeks? I now have...

After reading Wulf's post about the average word count for stories selected in the past, I've been slashing words in my story for Q2. Right now I'm at 12K down from 17K at the start of the weekend. Basically I'm rewriting it, narrowing it down to one POV character (did have 2 in alternating chapter...

Re: Novel Structure - About Turning Points
I usually don't think of turning points by the name turning points. But as I understand the context of when you used that term I do use chapter breaks for turning points. But not all of my chapter breaks are turning points. Is this clearer or the same as my original?

I don't usually think of it in those term. But I believe my answer would be chapter breaks. Not that all chapters are turning points.

A non WotF contest story
I wrote one for a different contest as the title says. It could use a check over. I hope it's one of my better written story but... Anyway, I would appreciate any help. I would do one for anyone who reads this story-hopefully I can make a bunch of suggestions to help yours. A bit over 4,000 words.

I finished my story. Yay, it's nice to have a new one instead of reworking an old one. And I have enough time to let it sit for three weeks before I revise it. Maybe enough time to have someone or two, go over it. So now in March I have two contests to send stories to. This one at the end of the mon...

Re: Novel Structure - About Turning Points
You mean in the books we write or read? But in reading hmm, never really thought about it. Most chapters seem to end in a major Turning Point, if I understand that term correctly. A lot of times in some form of cliffhanger but sometimes just a change of direction or POV.

Been thinking about checking out one of those. Back before it was pay I sort of used Duotrope to keep track of markets but I didn't like the color coding they used. Another site I found more to my liking even though no one around seemed to use it. But now that site if offline and I assume no more so...

So where will the award ceremony be in 2021? I wasn't aware of any plans to move the gala, but if they do I would vote for Pensacola. wotf007 I live here and that would make it easier to attend the function and meet all the judges and the support staff so I'm a little biased.
