Re: Almost Success - The "Mixed Feelings" Thread

Finally I can post something here. Sent in a very short story to one market. Got back a reply that basically said I almost made it. My story was among those that made it through to the final choice. They think my writing is good and stated in stronger terms than usual to send in another story, Only o...

Re: writing books

Not sure of a favorite. I read "On Writing" two books by Card. Self editing for Fiction Writers even though that isn't specifically about writing. Hmm, maybe my favorite is the continual Daily Kicks by Dave.

Re: Rejection

Hi folks. I am hoping to get some fresh eyes on my Q2 rejection. I didn’t take the rejection well and every time I open the document I want to delete every other word. Before I send it out on sub I’d really like some feedback about why maybe it didn’t work. I really believe in this story and want i...

Re: Magic in the 4th

Hmm, I do have ideas I could do, along these lines, but haven't decided yet. Hmm, actually there is an old story I could redo. I like that story and I am not sure if I have ever seen quite that twist on the subject before. Not that that means there aren't any stories with my twist.

Re: Discussion: Q3 Volume 35

I'm out. Just realized I completely failed to do the last revision Saturday and send it in, even though I never got that last critique back-in that case it would have been a quick look over. We buried my Father-in-Law and I was busy with my wife's family. Still could have done it though, except it t...

Re: Five Minute Rant

For F&SF, there's no correlation between getting a personal comment and getting closer to an acceptance..... All that being said, even if you've only ever received one-day rejections of "didn't grab me," that doesn't mean he won't buy your next story. :) Still would be nice to get one...

Yes it is. I must have thought I didn't need to say that here-I was in a hurry.

Could you PM your e-maill address to make sure I have it?

New type of shorter story

For me it's a new type while shorter than mine usually are I think it is long enough. How long that is is another matter.

I think its a fun story but we shall see how well it is done. I put in my best.

Re: Five Minute Rant

Interesting responses. Latest response from BCS Assistant editor liked a certain description. Disliked what she saw as my hiding something. I didn't hide it, it just wasn't time for that and the story is rather short. wotf017 I will move it up, it's not that big of deal-doesn't effect the plot at al...

Re: Five Minute Rant

I would not mind something like that. Evidently there is a lukewarm wording and a Hot setting, but nothing in-between from most editors. BCS is different with that and I have sent in stories to a couple of e-zines that also sent out a person comment with every rejection. Lukewarm would be someway of...

Re: Discussion: Q3 Volume 35

Hmm, I have the story for this quarter ever so close to being done. I didn't start it for this contest, or any other one, but as a fun where to show off what I have learned. But it's better than I expected, at least for me it's a bit of a twist, a little different. Which is why maybe, perhaps and ma...

Re: Five Minute Rant

Should not have grumbled about 8 rejections in 5 days. Writing gods aren't happy. It's now become 12 rejections in 7 days. Yikes! I have 6 Rs in 6 days going right now... Used to be my numbers but I have gotten so much out of the habit of sending in stories. I am doing good to get one rejection eve...

It worked at one time. And it is only the web site the company that owns those four magazines uses, that is the problem.

There are strange things happening in the world. I got home tonight and there was a message my machine. It was Joni! Re: Five Minute Rant

It had been so long I forgot. The system that Analog, Asimov's and the two mystery mag, use for the online submissions does not like my version of .doc files. It always says it's too long no matter how short the story. With Asimov's I can use .rtf but my current WP doesn't do that format. I have an ...

For years that is how I wrote. I hardly ever typed out anything. A couple(literally) of times I tried I got stuck on which way the story should go, then it became too much like work.

Re: Five Minute Rant

Been while since I have been here. I have been busy with Indie publishing books and writing them. And writing a few very short stories to pictures. All are under 600 words but many are 200 to 400 words. A couple around 100. Anyway, still learning to write and all that, which brings me to something I...

Three short stories needing a grammar check

An unusual request As some of you may know, because I have complained about, I have gotten out of the habit of sending out stories. Well, I have three right now that at least one editor likes, even though he isn't buying right now. So all three probably needs a grammar check and I and asking if anyo...
