Re: Discussion: Q2, Volume 36
Just came back to say that I may have started the story. I just finished the opening so we shall see how it goes from here.

Re: Discussion: Q1 Volume 36
I'd go to an agent because the three biggest sci-fi pubs don't accept unsolicited material. But self-publishing and small press are fine options too. I was told by someone in the industry that if you have a fair number of reviews on Amazon (20+ reviews), then an indie book can help you get a deal. ...

Re: Discussion: Q2, Volume 36
Hmm start thinking. I want to do one that is different from the one I submitted just now. I am doing one for another contest. Or do a revised version of one I have written already. As I said Thinking.

Re: Discussion: Q1 Volume 36
I just sent in mine. Got the first confirmation E-mail. I am glad I went over it once more. Found a couple of repeated words and left over words plus I think I made a couple of sentences more understandable. And thinking of the no name thing I almost forgot to format the manuscript correctly. But go...

Re: Discussion: Q1 Volume 36
My story is finished and revised. As I said before it is significantly longer than I expected. Maybe I can get my wife to look it over after I spell check it. Even though we are busy cleaning our house getting it ready to sell.

Re: Discussion: Q1 Volume 36
Hmm, I lied in my last post. I decided that I wanted to finish that story and I just did. It's longer than I had anticipated. I had problems with the ending. All of the ways of doing it sounded too cliche or well used. I wanted a twist but couldn't quite come up with one. I ended up going sideways a...

Re: Discussion: Q1 Volume 36
Hmm, need to finish it tomorrow so I can revise it. But if not I do have another story or two that have been revised I could use. I was going to say two but one is kinda of short. So it's one new story but there are a couple of notes old tales and one or two other new stories I haven't done anything...

Re: Discussion: Q1 Volume 36
If I may add something to this latest discussion. I agree with Wulf. I have been working on getting the human senses in the setting for a couple of years. I like think I am getting that down in the first writing but sometimes I forget a couple, sometimes I find that before I finish the story. I go b...

Re: Discussion: Q1 Volume 36
Sigh. I had to rearrange my story somewhat. I redid some of the opening, putting in some hints about what comes later, and including fixing a location problem I hadn't realized I put in. I mean where my MC was standing-which is all I will say about that. Still not completely sure about the the part ...

Re: What's Your Short Story Writing Process?
Usually I have an idea, sometimes get most of the story, sometimes not, and I start writing. At times I wrestle with the opening sometimes I procrastinate-like I am doing now-other stories and it all pretty much flows.

Re: What's Your Short Story Writing Process?
1. Have idea 2. write story (3. Submit to Beta readers) (4. Revise story) 5. Enter WotF 6. Wait 7. Receive HM (usually, of late) 8. Read story / Realise how badly written story was 9. Re-write story 10. Make sale (sometimes)! Yeah, number eight happens almost every time I look at any story I've wri...

Re: Discussion: Q1 Volume 36
Not to be contrary, but saying all agents are bad is like saying all writers are good. ~Moon~ I agree. Some of the newer ones have changed-working more for the publishers and not their clients-and some have played games with how much the writer actually made but still of course there are good ones....

It's never a failure when you send out a story to a market. It's an accomplishment. Send this one to another market, and go write your next. : ) ~Moon~ Hmm, second time typing this one out. First never showed. Anyway, been sending them in too long for me to count sending it in as much. Last quarter...

Re: Discussion: Q1 Volume 36
I have halted writing my story until I finish my NaNo novel. I would have time to finish it in Dec since it is almost finished. Even though there is still the possibility that I will revise an older story I think would fit better. In either case though I may still work on the first story this month ...

I saw the E-mail for the 3rd quarter, forgot for a moment which one I was entered in and thought "Already they are sending out rejections," but it hit me that that was the Third quarter the one I did not enter. Broke my run too.

Re: Almost Success - The "Mixed Feelings" Thread
I got my second personal rejection from F&SF this morning. It's nice that I'm getting closer, but as I near 50 rejections for 2018 (I know, still a n00b) the hamster wheel is starting to feel more like a treadmill every day. So close, but close don't cut it. wotf017 Onwards! Not bad and I know ...

We will need one some day, especially if part of their job is to find and catalogue space junk. Don't know if this is that day or not. So I agree that the basic idea is sound.

Re: Discussion: Q4 Volume 35
To me it seems there must be a huge range of quality in HMs, but they are all at a publishable level.. I remember reading somewhere that HMs are stories that are close to publishable but have a missing element, such as theme. It makes sense that HMs would have a wide range of quality if some storie...

Hmm, just been sort of thinking of what story I wanted to do. Today I decided to decide. Been wanting to do cyberpunk but I am still not sure enough to attempt one. Need to read more of them. Anyway I did start a story. Not sure if it is the one for the contest though. We shall see how it comes off....

Re: Almost Success - The "Mixed Feelings" Thread
