I like happy places! wotf007 I think performance anxiety and impostor syndrome go hand in hand, though. Stupid, nasty brain weasels. Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29

I only count three of them because one was for the same story submitted under different judges. Although I must admit that counting is not my strongest ability. I'd count that as two separate. Because 4 is better than 3. Math is sometimes wonderful. wotf007 (I say sometimes, because usually I try t...

Re: an editor who doesn't know you

Ha! That's really cool.

I wonder if it's because of those first editors knowing his quirks, or if it was simply a story that needed to be placed somewhere special/with a specific editor's attention? Because it sounds like it all worked out quite fine. wotf007

Re: Success!

My story "The Monastery of the Parallels" is up today at OSC's Intergalactic Medicine Show! This story got an R last year from the contest. I almost didn't send it out again, but some awesome friends (you know who you are!) told me to get it the heck out again, because I loved it so much. ...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q3 - Volume 32

For those keeping track of such things, I subbed on June 9. I have no idea what this one will do. I've pretty much stopped trying to guess, though I love the story! Onward to the next one. wotf006 Agreed. I love fine tuning. Changing three words to two. Two words to one. It's part of why I write so ...

Re: Success!

I believe Mike Resnick told me to come talk to him again when I'd put my plan in action and earned six figures in a year from my fiction. (He said this on this forum back in 2012ish I think? And I said by 2016 was my goal). So, hi Mike, and everyone else. I did it this year and I'm on track to blow...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29

I have vague plans of writing a series of stories set in my two universes and then linking them so I have two novels by the end of it. I'm sure this is a bad idea of course, it'll never work. But I'm too lazy/intimidated by the prospect of starting a real novel. wotf004 That sounds awesome! I wonde...

Wow. Thanks for that info, Mike! I'm feeling slightly more daunted by the slush...but eyeing my personal and hold pile rejections with a bit more respect. I did notice a jump in personal rejections once I got to put finalist on my cover letter, but it wasn't steady. And I was writing at a much highe...

Flash on your phone! That's brilliant! I have yet to conquer the drabble. I'm getting closer, though. I wrote several pieces of actual flash this year. I only had to start with a 250 word limit, and I ended up at 700 or something. Maybe if I start at a 25 word limit I'll end up at 100? As someone wh...

Joe, sounds like you've already got a good thing going with your longer works! I'm looking towards indie publishing, too, and I'm very interested in how short fiction works into the whole scheme of things. Some things I've noticed, from my own experience and from listening to and observing others: -...

Has anyone ever done a doctoral dissertation on the contest? There's gotta be good things in the data or even this forum to mine for research. I mean thirty years. That's over half a million dollars in prizes for WOTF and IOTF, which doesn't cover the costs of the event and workshops. This is a sig...

wotf010 Gator, and Elinor! That was a great story! I just adored the last line. Thanks. To be honest, I've never been entirely convinced the grammar is quite right on that last line.
