Re: Just out of curiousity...

Heh, I am playing Baldurs Gate: EE and that's the opening quote on the main screen... well, not quite *that* quote but close enough.

Re: Sci-Fi and Fantasy Books You Enjoy?

If nobody has mentioned it already: http://www.amazon.ca/Lies-Locke-Lamora-Scott-Lynch/dp/0575079754/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1353367976&sr=8-5 The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch. It was his debut novel and a nice change of pace to the grim and "realistic" fantasies (a realistic...

Re: Science Fiction and Fantasy on TV.

It does seem to be hard to find a decent sci-fi show (or any really) that keeps you glued to the screen. Falling Skies does it fairly well if you turn off the little logical unit in your head about...20% of the time? Otherwise it's decent, Pope is awesome. wotf001 I'd suggest looking for DVDs of sc...

Re: Science Fiction and Fantasy on TV.

I didn't realize Caprica had been cancelled, which shows how out of the loop I am on TV of late. I do miss having an ongoing sci-fi show to watch though. Does anybody else feel like there's been something of a dearth the last year or two? Although I did catch some Falling Skies recently...the execu...

Naw you did, just hmm.... to my eyes the guy at the top of the page dominates the illustration and everything "under him" is what he is experiencing in his mind, or what he is being subjected to. Looking closer though the woman (if it's a woman, I got it wrong once already) at the bottom r...

Re: Just out of curiousity...

well, just an illustrator's comment here ... I believe BOTH the Writer and Illustrator receive a lovely, enlarged, framed print of the story's illustration (from the contest) It's lovely. Some artists are digital, so the only "original" resides inside their computer. Anything else is a pr...

Just out of curiousity...

Do you past WOTF winners (for the writing portion) tend to buy the original artwork made for your story? Besides the obvious benefits of winning, a illustration of your work sounds neat to me, suitable perhaps for framing or as inspiration above a desk.

Re: Science Fiction and Fantasy on TV.

I do find it funny though that "The Hobbit" as a book is a fraction of the length of any of the other LOTR trilogy books, self contained and yet it's being stretched into two movies (with the third one being the expanded universe material, or the material will be incorporated throughout th...

Re: Short story collections

I liked the Stephen King short story or novellas collections. Also the "Wastelands" and "The Living Dead" anthologies by JJ Adams, I like the different takes on the subject by some well known and semi-known authors. "The Dying Earth" Anthology edited by GRR Martin was w...

So yeah what are your guys/gals favorite short story/novella collections? (excluding WOTF since I assume everyone here buys and enjoys them :) ) I really enjoyed the GRR Martin: A RRetrospective. Welcome Bremen! No worries on the rejections from mags or from the contest. Even forum member's who've published still get them. Bummer, but true. But if I get ten more for my quota for the month I hear we'll win a toaster oven!

Toast is awesome!

Hi Austin,

I haven't submitted anything to *any* of the recent quarters, my writing has been lax recently. I plan to this one though (the Oct - Jan one) :) What is "Jibber Jabber" exactly?

Edit:

Ah I see, people talking about the latest quarter. Neat wotf022

So I'll see whats what I suppose (and who's who, where, why and while I'm at it) and ...
