Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!
Welcome, welcome all new and delurking forumites. I sold a novelette a couple of months back. Am I correct to think that I could still sell THREE short stories before I am no longer eligible? A couple of thoughts--- First, the guidelines suggest publish, not sell. A fair few prize winners got their ...

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!
Hi! My name's Amy and I just placed 2nd in the 3rd quarter. I've lurked the forums, but never joined in. I suppose now would be a good time for it huh? I'm really excited to be here! I've known about the contest for years, but this was my first entry so I'm still sort of reeling. can't wait until A...

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!
Adding to the chorus, I'm fifty (though I have been entering the contest since v4 back in the late 1980s). I can't claim to have started late, but I can suggest that simple chronological enhancement has given me some tools of experience and perspective that may not be as easily available to younger ...

...and so the kingdom remains united. Which seems like a good thing to me (though I hope it lights a non-vengeful fire under the Tories to give not-England a bit more voice in the proceedings as we go forward).
Good hope and fortune to all.

Re: Success!
I think it's much harder to get an article in Nature than a story--good luck to him! (Not that it's easy to get a story in Nature either. But still...) True. And yet he seems to have a good basis for a worthy paper here ( http://news.byu.edu/archive14-jul-tsetsefly.aspx ), so hope is not yet lost. ...

Ace!
A guy in my critique group is an evolutionary biologist who has published fiction in Nature and will soon have an article out in Analog. Now he's trying to flip that over and get the complete set.

Re: Success!
Sold a story to Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine! Even better, it's a story set in the current series I'm writing, the Alexandrian Saga! The story is called "The Trouble with Virgins". Monster sale, Thomas! And part of a series, no less, so you have a draw for future sales to them. Nice work...

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!
My question is - and I'll appreciate as much input as possible before deadline... is it worth submitting it? Can't speak for current judging currents, but I had one finalist that featured a lightly touched sex scene (situational, not descriptive) and another finalist set in a strip club that was ve...

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!
Hello and welcome, Brandi!
This is a great forum and wonderful chance to learn, share, and generally hang out with interesting people.
As a father of six (and a very wiggly, very large black Lab) I can feel some of your pain (and joy).
Good to meet you. Be well.

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!
Hi all. My name is Scott Parkin and I'm a writer. I just placed as a finalist in Q4-29, and Kary found me on FB and informed me of these forums. One never learns to wait calmly and dispassionately for final quarterly results. I certainly haven't. I was one of those people who submitted nearly every ...

Finalist. (Fourth overall, though first in far over a decade--took a very long break...) That's awesome, Scott. Best of luck with finally sealing the deal. wotf009 Thanks, Alex--and right back at you. (Unrelated note--I grew up about 150 miles northeast of you in Buffalo Grove, a far northwest subu...
