Re: Quarter 4, vol. 30
I got an honorable mention!!!! A tiny bit of needed validation!!! Followed the advice in a personal rejection from Daily Science Fiction. Dear 4th quarter contestant, Congratulations, your story has received an Honorable Mention for the 4th quarter. We are not done with judging for the quarter so if...

Re: Quarter 3, vol. 30
Rejected!!! This is libel! Slander! How dare they!!!
In any case... There was a glaring error that I edited into my final drafttrying to make the beginning stand out. Next quarter I have a resubmission that takes the advice of the DSF editors... So, watch out!!

Re: Almost Success - The "Mixed Feelings" Thread
Stupefying stories put one of my stories through two rounds of reading (which I know isn't standard because I got a quick form rejection from them on the next story...). Daily Science Fiction just e-mailed me to tell me I'm in for another round of reading. I've went from straight form rejections to ...

I think all past winners should fight to the death in a large outdoor environment. They are far too powerful.

Re: Quarter 2, vol. 30
I guess it's pointless to add that I was rejected. Already edited the story and have it out to lightspeed. It'll be a lightning round rejection from there I hear (two days out at midnight!). I'm strangely okay with all my rejections because I've finished another short story today and have five or so...

Re: Almost Success - The "Mixed Feelings" Thread
Got a response from BCS, they will change my E-mail address on my story. By what they said and the fact that I haven't received a rejection yet, I think they haven't read it yet. Which means they are a bit late from their stated turn around. Need to check Analog and Asimov's later tonight. Analog w...

Re: exchange writing
I know most everyone on the forums knows about critters.org but, if not, it's good. I submitted a story and have received 17 critiques so far (and I still have a day left). None of them have made me want to cry myself to sleep yet wotf007 I've learned A LOT reading these critiques. They come from al...

I'm in the same camp. We must have submitted at the same time. Looks like she rejected a bunch of 60 day stories but left ours. Eventually we'll scrap together the madness to the method wotf017 wotf049 Like I said, Sheila's messing with us. This is nothing but pure torture. Asimov's had another rou...

Re: Almost Success - The "Mixed Feelings" Thread
I'm at 61 days at Asimov's, and it only just changed from "Received" to "Under Review" yesterday. And then form rejection a few hours later after posting this... My submission status at 41 days is still listed as "Under Review" and giving me false hope, but I know bett...

Re: Almost Success - The "Mixed Feelings" Thread
It might indicate that the story has been transferred from a data base to an e-reader or something similar. If the editor loads them in batches, it would explain why several people are under review at once. I was sort of hoping it meant that the story got by a slush pile reader or something. If I c...

Re: Mike Resnick launches 2 new markets
Isn't that ironic? Google putting ads up then warning people against visiting a website? Yahoo actually warned me against Clarkesworldmagazine.com and Lewrockwell.com. They both were displaying the same ads.

Re: Almost Success - The "Mixed Feelings" Thread
I'm still under review Asimov's. I saw someone made a sale on a story that was submitted near the time my story was (on the black hole website). I'm over forty days now so I hope to hear something. Maybe after Rand Paul's filibuster my story is even more relevant.

Re: Almost Success - The "Mixed Feelings" Thread
That's odd that they don't review them in order. I haven't been checking up much on it but then I saw some rejections on the submission grinder that were submitted at about the same time. My story is 6.5k thinly veiled stab at drone warfare and neoconservatism...
but I think a lot of fun.

My story to Asimov's is going on 37 days out and the status has changed to "under review" at least two days ago. I'm just happy it's not an immediate reject!!

I got a nice email today. I've made it to the final round at Andromeda! wotf003 Somehow my story got past the first two rounds of readers wotf017 and now it has, I'm told, a "1 in 20 chance" of getting published. wotf010 I'm getting close! I sooo want to post on that darn success thread! ...

Re: Analog Submissions
I was using what I know about Clarkesworld and applying it to Analog. If he get's 1000 plus a month AND he doesn't have a first round of defense he's probably "reading" 30-40 a day. I guess that shows the importance of having a solid beginning. If that's the case, if he gets around 35 a da...

60 days, queried. Response was form?? letter stating my work was still in consideration, to please wait ... that they were making changing in the organization -- which I knew. 180 days total later ... form rejection of 3 poems and one short story. Gotta admit, I thought after they'd held my work fo...

Re: Five Minute Rant
Well, my Q3 finalist got a lightning fast form reject from F&SF. I figured they wouldn't want it because its rather long (and would be expensive for them to buy) but really, that was a FAST rejection. Rant over. Back out it goes... I actually prefer fast rejections. The best markets are Lightsp...

Don't stop reading at the intro. There is good stuff down the page. This is a real "wow" moment for me... Like when reading an economics book for the first time or Mark Sisson on diet and fat... Very nice.

Hi Carol. I haven't gotten anything published either (I've never submitted long fiction and got my first short fiction rejection this month). I figure this process- submitting, revising, submitting, revising, write, write, write- is a crucible for getting better. I have self-doubt (was that last sen...

Welcome George! I like how deeply you ponder these big sociopolitical issues. You're a next generation Grandmaster in the making. I absolutely loved I, Robot (the book, not the movie (though the movie was decent in its own way)). Asimov takes a single technology and then explores everything that co...

I'm certainly willing to give his longer work another chance because of how magnificent his short stor...

Don't worry!! Rand is Rand, I'm not going to replicate her (nor Rowling for that matter). I'll limit my speeches to single, short, paragraphs (though, to be honest, I did have a "speech" in for first short story that was truncated due to the plot requiring it). I define military as "s...
