Re: Analog Submissions

Congrats. Helen! Even though it wasn't a sale, just knowing that your work was under serious consideration can be a real shot in the arm.

Re: Analog Submissions

I'm thinking of submitting a fantasy story to Analog, and writing something in the cover letter to the effect of: "A temporary glitch in our frontal lobe led us to briefly overlook your submissions policy, so we sent you this fantasy story." I won't do it of course. But it would give me a...

Re: Analog Submissions

So I still have a story out at Analog for 245 days. I queried Analog about it over two weeks ago, and have still heard nothing. I'm assuming it's lost or dead at this point. Does anyone have any advice on how to proceed? I think it's unprofessional to leave writers hanging that long. I would send t...

Re: Analog Submissions

"Speaking of which, given that the subject of this thread is Analog, does anyone know what the heck is going on there now?" I know how you feel. I re-read my story and imo it's really good. Since it's my first Analog sub, I'm not expecting an acceptance, but I'm excited to get this out the...

Re: Analog Submissions

I submitted back in May and I'm still waiting. When I submitted, the guidelines said it takes weeks to respond. Now it says it takes on average 2 to 3 months. But if you go by Duotrope and the grinder and here, it's obvious that their "average" is nowhere near correct. I'm puzzled as to wh...

Not bad. I have never had a story rejected by Analog, which is why I wondering about why it was taking so long. Then again, I've never submitted to them before. But still.

Re: Analog Submissions

I'm catching up with forum reading after being offline between work and stuff... I know this is late, but I wanted to share some thoughts. It might be more productive at this point to skip Analog as a market until/if they get back on their feet. Or go into the submission knowing you've got a massiv...

Re: Analog Submissions

How is Asimov? Do they get back in their stated 5 week time frame average?

Re: Analog Submissions

Kind of disappointing that they say the average is 5 weeks for a response, but apparently don't get back to people for many months. In fact, when I submitted it said something about 2 to 6 weeks. Maybe if the writing is really bad, or the story is not within their guidelines, they put in into a long...

Need Helping in Finding a Sci-Fi Novel

I believe it was written in the 60s or 70s. It involves a kid who finds a portal to another dimension in the wall beside his bed. I know that's not a lot to go on, but it's pretty much all I have. IIRC, the first part of the book is about this kid on this side of the portal, the second part is about...

Re: Short story collections

Reading the collected short stories of Arthur C Clarke. The guy was so ahead of his time, it's ridiculous. He was writing about the technological singularity in the 50s.

Re: Analog Submissions

Oh man, I just submitted a story to Analog based on their estimated 5 week time frame. When I submitted it, the page told me it could take from 2 to 6 weeks. Bummer if it takes months and months. Best thing to do in this biz is forget the submission once they are out the door and work on the next. ...
