Re: Almost Success - The "Mixed Feelings" Thread

She's still finalising slush though while the new editor takes over. I sent my query just before her announcement, when she said she was behind in the stories that had made it to her. I've gotten the autoresponse for each email I've sent so it's not like they've just disappeared, so I'm assuming the...

Re: Almost Success - The "Mixed Feelings" Thread

I'm in Apex hell. On duotrope there are 13 responses pending (7 on Grinder). I've been waiting 128 days. The responses have slowed to a trickle, and I've resorted to stalking Lynne on twitter to see if there are any updates on the slush pile. I'm hoping for a personal rejection at the very least. Th...

I was coming in here to see if Analog had gotten any better re: response but I guess not. Oh well, might revisit them again next year. wotf005

Re: Success!

Thanks all! If any of you are subscribers to Aurealis mag, the next issue (which is out tomorrow I think?) has a story of mine in it. It's fantasy horror.

Re: Good Places to Submit Stories

I'm in Australia, most (all?) of our places take online subs, and don't pay as well as overseas markets unfortunately! (Although I'm happy with semi-pro really... actually, I'm happy with "yes we'll publish this and give you a free copy!")

Re: Good Places to Submit Stories

Lightspeed is closed until next year and Apex is currently closed as a new editor comes on board. I just sent my semi into Fantasy & Sci Fi mag but they only take paper subs, I was kindly sent US stamps by another author. All of the above are good, though Shimmer has a very particular style so i...

Just ouch. Ouch. I could write all the words, but I'm still too outraged. Sometimes personal rejections suck.

It's funny comparing response times to Lightspeed... I got my lightspeed rejection the next day, a far cry from my 130 day wait at Analog!

Re: Analog Submissions

Oh that sucks LDWriter2. I actually sent this story to Analog while waiting for Lightspeed to re-open last time, so if I'd missed out on subbing because of Analog's slowness I would have been really cranky. I'm sure it'll be rejected anyway but you gotta try!

Re: Analog Submissions

Woohoo! I got my rejection just in time to sub to Lightspeed before they closed for AGES. I had a heartattack until I realised here in Aus it's the 1st but it's still the 31st in the US... go time zones!

Re: Five Minute Rant

I hoped my WoTF semi was good enough for Lightspeed... got all excited that 2 days had passed with no rejection. Then it plopped in my inbox with a "didn't quite work", not even a "didn't quite win me over" :(. Rant is at myself for getting my hopes up.

Re: Five Minute Rant

My rant: I subscribed to a mag because they advertise that they "fast track" subs for subscribers. I sent them a poem, and well after the average response time (for everyone) they rejected it... after the deadline for the next place I'd lined up had passed. GAAAAHRRRGH.

Re: Five Minute Rant

Hehe I had an 8 hour turnaround from JJ too, same wording, and the next story I sent had the same wording too (longer response time tho). I appreciate not having to wait ages though!

Re: Almost Success - The "Mixed Feelings" Thread

Ah, people who get it! I've had some really positive rejections. My first Waylines sub I got a fantastic rejection ("delightfully dark and original"!) I was insanely excited by getting to the editorial round at Waylines next sub. Shimmer people have always been encouraging. I was shortlist...

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!

Hiya, I made semi-finalist in Q2 Vol 30 (first try), and my very awesome mentor, Jason Fischer (who is a past winner) suggested I jump on here to get some more tips. I've been writing since 2010, mostly dark fantasy, sci fi and horror. I've had several stories published, but I'm always searching for...
