To say I stumbled would be an understatement. I was blindsided by comedic moments that were not in the planning stage.

1. What exactly is denoument, and why must a story have it?2. Describe a denoument for us from one of your favorite books. 3. Go back to the last short story you wrote (not the Flash). Ask yourself: Did my story have a true denoument? And then confess. Here. You heard me. Don't worry, we'll absolve...

Wulf Moon wrote:Think of Rush's 2112 Overture. That was a science fiction story, told through verse and melody. Groundbreaking storytelling.

Many of the songs by Rush are short stories put to music. I still like listening to their albums.

I've finally shed my blinders and am listening to podcasts.
I just listened to Joni talking about the contest and past and present participants.
Hard as it is to believe she said the youngest writer to enter the contest was 8 years old and the oldest was 94. wotf015

Re: Moon's SUPER SECRET Bonus Challenge!

I like the way poetry and prose are compared to the art of writing flash fiction in the discussion. It brought home to me the fact that participating in the Secret Challenge brings me full circle. One day I realized songs and poems are, after all just short stories. Hence my storysinger name. I wrot...

I just listened to #35 It Takes Ten Years To Become An Overnight Success with Robert J. Defendi.
That gives me 4 years to go. In the podcast they say the first million words are practice.
I've got a lot of practice left to reach that level.

You're spot on with that lesson Wulf. I definitely dropped the ball on that one. Not a word hinted at the tracking device but I knew early in the story it was a prominent detail. Lesson learned.

That story is exactly 500 words according to my program. It's not a magic story as much as a near future one. Here's the 250. Jenna’s Deception “Mommy your puter pinged.” Jenna yelled, “I’m coming.” With trembling fingers she brought up her email. One word, TODAY! The clinic that had grown Tommy fro...

Re: Moon's SUPER SECRET Bonus Challenge! Vol. 36

Dr. Jerry Pournelle's message is a good one. The idea of paying it forward keeps the information stream going. I finished the 250 challenge on the number. The hardest part of the exercise is getting the 1000 word story written. Cutting that to 499 didn't take that long and getting to 250 wasn't hard...
