Re: Discussion: Q4 Volume 36

It's amazing the way that works huh? You would think that with all the technology we have life would be simpler. Nope. I'm here paying $1,400 a month for a 400 square foot studio in San Diego. Every little penny I earn pays some kind of bill. It's hard enough for a bachelor. I can't imagine for som...

Re: Discussion: Q4 Volume 36

Four original fresh stories in one contest year is not an impossible goal. It's a simple start toward growth, and all new writers need to start somewhere, set reasonable goals that push themselves, and keep moving forward in their skills. In truth, most of us need to be writing much, much more. Imp...

Re: Discussion: Q4 Volume 36

Oh man. Wow. What a great challenge. Get a story critiqued every week by Dean. 2000 word minimum though. That'd be tough to do and maintain the day job. Chuck, replying to you, but of course, sharing with all. Dean Wesley Smith was my mentor, and the reason I'm writing--and selling--again today. Hi...

Re: Discussion: Q3 Volume 36

To continue then with my story: in 2012 I got rheumatoid arthritis, which basically feels like getting your ass kicked every day. The doctor’s treat that with chemo pills and opioids. So I didn’t skip the usual addiction. Also I was in the Marine Corps for 7 years. And I drank a lot. I haven’t had ...

Re: Discussion: Q4 Volume 36

Finished the first draft for my Q4 story. Should have it cleaned up in a few days. My goal is to submit by the end of the week. If results for Q2 don't come out before then that'll mean I'll have 3 stories pending. Exciting! Anyone willing to swap stories? wotf008 I'll swap with you, though it'll b...

I'm in for Q3! Finished the first draft for my Q4 story last week. Q2 still pending. If I submit Q4 this week I'll have 3 stories pending at the same time. First time for everything I guess.

I hope he's feeling better. Sepsis is no joke. About the post he put up: I read his story Hellfire on the High Frontier in volume 32 recently (which was wonderful by the way). In it the MC is sitting, pondering about events. The descriptions are vivid and everything in the story ties into the beginn...

Interesting. I guess I read that wrong. I read it as before Q4 is all said and done. As in Q3 and Q4 results will come around the same time.

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - Volume 35

Just queried Joni. Wow she's quick, super nice too. Anyway, got an HM. I was hoping to graduate to at least Semi finalist with this one. Oh well, now that I have that out of the way, onward to Q3!

I suggest anyone who's still waiting for results to send her a quick query.

Glenn, Yes, sometimes Joni can't reach someone or a phone # has changed... In my previous quarter, M.T. Chambers didn't know he was a finalist until after the list came out. He was backpacking in Asia! However, I do strongly believe that the 8 finalists are picked. When we see one, Joni has them al...

I bet theres hope for HM maybe SHM just don't get hopes up for something spectacular. I bet all the highest placing submissions have been dealt with. But I don't know :) *shrug. I guess the question that should be asked at this point is, have any email people heard back yet? If someone has that should tell us a response is imminent.

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - Volume 35

When Joni calls the finalists does it show up on caller ID as private? If so, I think I may have missed the call.... It sure does. I answered an "unknown" number this afternoon hoping it was her. Grrr... I don't usually get private calls, and when I do i usually get an automated voicemail...
