Re: All countdown stories

I’ve mentioned this precise phenomenon to a few writing friends recently based on stories I read in the pro magazines. Curious to hear your thoughts. https://drmauser.wordpress.com/2018/06/28/fizzle/ I've noticed this in a few stories lately. From a writer's point of view, I understand why it happe...

I had two stories published at the beginning of this month: "This Isn't Better" in Galaxy's Edge , and "Peace in the Valley" in Factor Four Magazine . They were my second publications in both markets. I am now officially pro-ed out from the contest. I have learned so much from b...

Re: Magic in the 4th

I just started my Magic in the 4th story. I am semi-pantsing it. I have a pretty strong concept, some interesting characters, and I know where I want to end up, but no idea how I'm going to get there. Should be fun!

Re: History of LGBTQ+ Characters in the Contest

I agree with what everyone said above. I would also add that writing with a fear of rejection is counter-productive. It will prevent you from taking the risks necessary for your story to have any chance. This contest, and indeed any venue worth publishing in, is looking for more than just competence...

FYI...I forwarded my original submission (May 3rd) to Lezli and she passed it on to the editorial staff. She said to allow up to an additional 30 days before hearing anything back. Glad they were able to figure out what happened and get it taken care of. ~Morgan Same for me. Thanks for the heads up.

Lukewarm would be someway of saying "send in another story" evidently editors who say that mean it and aren't just being nice or polite. Hot would be a personal comment, especially if it says you were close. FWIW this is what we do at PodCastle. There are 4 tiers of rejections, available ...

I've been thinking about what I want to write about. I have a vague concept that I want to try, but it is going to need some more work before I can even do a log line.

But first, I've got to finish up Q3. Just finished my first draft.

Re: Five Minute Rant

I understand the emotional need for validation. When you get 50 nos for every yes, you begin to wonder, "are any of these at least a maybe?" But the bottom line is a "warm" is still a no, and if you were to get 50 warms in row, you'd start thinking, they just don't want me to fee...

Shelving a story because we believe Dave didn't like it is the worst kind of rejectomancy! I can attest to this personally. I've sold four out of seven R's from this contest and I've yet to have sold any of my five HM's. This is just another market with its own needs and own tastes. Dave has a lot ...
