Re: Success!

I usually have between 10 and 15 stories out at a time. My most rejected story is currently at 30. My best story sold first time out. I've had stories sell after 20 rejections (although at nominal rates). I rarely revise, not because I believe my stories are perfect, but because I'd rather use my li...

Re: Why Do You Write?

Let's be honest, either one would be awesome. I like (b) better though. I don't mind writing being a side gig, but giving my stories immortality, that would be truly special.

Re: What's a Silver Honorable Mention as opposed to a regular HM?

I think this is good encouragement for all of us, especially if you've sold some things, that we should be writing with publication in mind, instead of the "well, I'm just not there yet," mindset. Exactly. wotf007 wotf010 I guarantee that part of the reason I haven't sold any of my WotF s...

Woke up one morning with this little ditty going through my head. No idea where it came from in the night, but I'm picturing some future antagonist whistling the tune as he makes his way over people's rooftops and down into their homes. Sincere apologies to Mr. Dick Van Dyke... Chim chiminy Chim ch...

Re: What's a Silver Honorable Mention as opposed to a regular HM?

Even Rs can be publishable. I've sold 3 out of 5 Rs so far, and only 1 out of 5 HMs.
I do feel my HMs are better than my Rs in general, so it is just a matter of market really.

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q4 - Volume 34

I keep forgetting to report in here, but I submitted on September 29th, and I just received the confirmation a few minutes ago, so I'm in for Quarter 4! I first entered the contest 10 years ago this quarter, and I've only missed one quarter since--this is my 40th entry wotf024 Wow, that's determina...

I used to be told I had a great accent too. Then I asked how it was considered possible for an Englishman to speak English with an English accent. I mean, do we accuse the French of speaking French with a French accent? (I have to concede that my accent nowadays places me somewhere between Windsor ...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q4 - Volume 34

You and me, Stephanie. Four entries in 35! I may have only one in all of 34. That's not good... I've been obsessed with political stuff for over a year and it's killed my creativity. Real life is an unwelcome balm to the fire of the muse. Once I work out how to stop obsessively checking the news ea...

Wow, I go away a few days... Congrats George and Philip! I'm having a slow year so far, but that is largely my own fault. Very few submissions because all my unsold stories are stuck in limbo somewhere and I'm too lazy to get them unstuck. But over the weekend I had four rejections, so four new subm...

Re: Writing Room/Office/Space

Time is more important to me than space. I find I write best in the morning and for a relatively small amount of time (45 minutes to an hour), so I write from 6 AM to 7 AM before going to work. My desk and computer is in my bedroom and no one is around to bother me at that time of day so it works ou...
