And on the Thurs day, Dave said, let there be results.

And the results were shared across the email and the forum and the facebook.

And they were good.

Re: Discussion: Q2 Volume 37

WULF, I foresee a time when the number of entries becomes voluminous and overwhelming, and the obvious solution would be to employ a SECOND READER. I can't think of anyone more qualified to fit the role of this task – you already critiqued many of your Forum Challenge Beasties; you've seen numerous...

Re: Wulf Moon's SUPER SECRETS Workshop & Challenge!

Thanks for your kind words everyone. I really appreciate that. On the brighter note, my partner read my Q3 entry last night and actually like it! This is one and only story of mine that she's liked in the last 10 years! An omen? Probably not. But, it make me happy anyway. wotf007 So sorry to hear ab...

Re: Wulf Moon's SUPER SECRETS Workshop & Challenge!

Just checking in... I've completed both of my stories for the quarter. I'll submit my Q3 entry once my partner has read through and is confident I've not made any spelling mistakes in the first paragraph (as I did with my Q1 entry!). I've already submitted my 2nd story for the quarter to Analog Mag....

Dialogue Exercise Part 2: The railyard smelled of rust and hot grease and pockets of stale water evaporating. It was a haven for stray dogs and a breeding ground for mischief. Anything that stayed too long in this place was bound to turn bad. Everett found his little brother, Cole, lounging in a de...

Re: Discussion: Q3 Volume 37

After a three week hiatus due to getting laid off, I realized I wasn't interested in the story I started writing for this quarter and instead of grinding it into the ground - I ventured into a new story that was better capturing my attention and mood. I'm only about 1,400 words in, but I enjoyed wh...

Re: Wulf Moon's SUPER SECRETS Workshop & Challenge!

So, what is the standard convention for dialogue tags when three or more characters are conversing. Should each characters' dialogue be labeled or can tags be dropped when it's obvious who's speaking? Also, is there a rule when a simple tag should be used for clarity (I.e. said) vs using an action b...

Ha ha. Thanks for your comments, Retro. I genuinely appreciate that. But to be fair, I stand by my opinion. I just find some writing styles aggravating. In fact, I find Sara J Maass writing style aggervating too (nothing to do with the name). While I fully accept that Sara and Donald (and countless ...

SWIFT POTATO, after you read the Maass book, did you apply EVERY SINGLE ONE of the EMOTIONAL MASTERY EXERCISES to your winning story, most of them, or only a few? I just wanted to remind anyone that is struggling, that things aren't the same. With covid-19, kids at home (and possibly anxious) whatever you have going on, things are different. Any major life event brings some change with it, and that can definitely affect your work flow and energy. I've been s...

Good question. I've entered the contest about 6 times over the last few years and have never hired an editor. Given the cost, I'd have to be very very confident in a story before hiring one.
