Re: Discussion: Q4 Volume 35

Just my opinion, but it seems to me if they want to see shorter stories, perhaps the word count limit in the rules should be lowered to, say, 10K max? I hope not. And I think not...this limit was set long ago. I like long stories, it's what I also write. Darci Stone's story is a good example of why...

Re: Discussion: Q4 Volume 35

Anyone else feel ready to submit? I don't know how much more I want to tweak this story. I kinda want to submit it now. I know exactly that feeling. You've spent lots of time on the thing. Lived with it. Tweaked it. Edited it. And while once you were in love with the story now you just want it off ...

Re: Discussion: Q4 Volume 35

I'm back after a long break. I needed a change of pace and enjoy catching up by reading forum posts. It's like visiting a faraway land and seeing what the questing knights are up to. I love reading about the March workshop and learning from the great gurus and folks going to the gala and winning the...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q3 - Volume 33

Anyone else noticed that Dave's Kick for today or was it yesterday's was what rejection really means? Haven't read it yet but But it made me say Hmmm Yes... I did notice and skimmed it. In a nutshell it was a warning to not give up just because you are rejected. He says it means you must try harder...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q3 - Volume 33

For me, this is the funnest part. Soon results will begin to trickle in while some are still waiting to get definite word from Q2. The longer it takes to find out an individual result, the more hope and excitement builds up for him or her. Before you find out your fate, anything is possible! wotf011...

Now that results seem to be rolling in for Q2, when do you think they'll begin for Q3? My guess is Septemberish. wotf011

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q3 - Volume 33

I read yesterday that the most important reason to enter a contest is directed writing practice with a deadline. To me, it's fun to anticipate what will happen. Life without risk is dull. I feel really good about my first sentence and stopped before the story became hokey. Good luck to all, and happ...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q3 - Volume 33

I started my Q3 entry 19 May, finished and submitted it 24, May. The last (and first time) I submitted a short story for WOTF was Q3 Volume 31. It was the first 15,000 words of so of my novel (before I revised and polished it) and got rejected. In addition to polishing my novel so it would be accept...

The "small announcement" is posted now. And somehow I feel this thread is the perfect place for such a wacky revelation. wotf004 Of course Gator is beginning to regret mentioning it, as she's starting to realize the full implications... https://ecaimansands.com/2016/06/09/a-small-announce...

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!

Hello Kristy, Sorry to hear about your registration issues. I spent the better part of a morning (a week or so ago) trying to figure out avatars. But I don't recall troubles with registration, so it must be a recent phenomenon. I have an entry in 2016 quarter 3 after taking a 2 year break. So you've...

Thanks amoskalik, congrats on your three honorable mentions wotf011! I only entered the WOTF contest once before in 2014 and my story was rejected. Writing a good short story is a hard nut to crack. Best wishes, Amy

Hey, I entered my first WOTF entry for quarter three. I've enjoyed reading your posts. Not sure what I'm doing exactly, but I feel compelled to write science fiction. Luck to everyone!
