Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - Volume 34

I'm in the same boat, wanting my Q2 to win more than my Q1. Though part of that is due to the fact that I can't submit my Q2 to as many places as the Q1 story.

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q2 - Volume 34

I was going to send one other out to BCS but according to my cover letter for it I had sent that story to them but must not have listed it. Is there anyway to check on what stories we sent them???? Search your sent e-mail for the submission. Since their auto-reply doesn't list the story's name, tha...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q2 - Volume 34

I've had a hard time motivating myself to revise my story. Perhaps its because I'm trying a different method, more inline editing instead of just rewriting the whole thing. That way I can focus on one issue at a time. Next pass: theme!

Thanks for letting us know about this. I've submitted to Time Travel and Heroic Fantasy. If another story gets back in time, it shall go to Lost Worlds.

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q4 - Volume 33

And of course the critique promptly arrives. Fortunately no major changes suggested. One issue was raised over which I'd be interested to hear other views. If you're attempting to tell a story from the viewpoint of a character with certain perceptual limitations (in this case autism), are you justi...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q2 - Volume 34

The story I'm submitting this Q has already earned 2 HMs here. I don't quite remember the changes I made first time around except that I cut the first 3,000 words and started somewhere else to have it give the right promises to the reader. This time around, I redid the beginning, and completely redi...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q2 - Volume 33

Just got a reply to my query! I'm not finding your last name or the title of your story in any files on the computer. Did you send it via e-mail perhaps? I print those off, but I wanted to check with you first. Guess my query wasn't detailed enough, so I'm still in NNINN. Still, good to know that sh...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q2 - Volume 33

Has anyone who subbed to Joni personally, i.e. not through the system because it closed early - received an e-mail from her telling them of their fate? I fear a R, but hope for an HM. So I'm hanging out in NNiNN at the moment, but am ready to query to put this quarter to rest. Nothing here. Still t...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q4 - Volume 33

I don't see anything that says they aren't eligible (in fact, I had a few WOTF stories on my Hugo nominating ballot this year). I assume more that it's just not as wide read as the big magazines (F&SF, Clarkesworld). The short stories list especially has a very long tail of stories that are nomi...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q2 - Volume 33

Yes, we want to be professional, but there are protocols for lost submissions. Query once at an appropriate time. Now that finalists should be notified is an appropriate time. Then wait for a time, I believe a month is appropriate. That's why I changed my mind to wait until September to send elsewhe...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q2 - Volume 33

I like that thing. I also have a rejection goal. Because of it, I got held for consideration at a market I wouldn't have submitted to otherwise.

Now to prepare my story to go get another rejection. wotf024

Yeah, I'm trying to tell myself the entry got lost to keep myself from twitching. And then I'll resubmit for Q1 (since I've already submitted to Q4), maybe after submitting elsewhere. Congrats to the HMs and SHMs! I heard it was top 10% for HM. I think the 3% is getting them multiple times in a row....

My usual process: write two drafts, send to writing group, write another draft, send it through critters, write another draft, polish that draft (including read aloud) and submit.
