Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - Volume 34

Hmm. At 127 days now and no response. I see there are already Finalists who have been announced here, but I've got nothing. This is one of those (heavily) revised stories, so I'm not sure if something good is brewing, or Dave saw the story again and just didn't bother to respond. How did you submit...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q4 - Volume 33

It's not the sort of story that can be cut down either. wotf017 Is it something that could be expanded on instead? Novellas are a thing. (I will admit, I'm not overly familiar with how easily marketable they may be, but it might be worth considering.) Possibly, but I'm not a novella fan and there's...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q4 - Volume 33

Oh god. It says the applications are closed. It's 3pm here in GM10+ (Sydney) on the 30th and they've closed down.

I've emailed Joni (I think?), but now I'm seriously worried. Any advice?

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q2 - Volume 33

I have to confess to being a longtime lurker on the forum. I gleaned a lot of helpful tips that helped with the 1st place win. My first WotF entry was straight R. I got a silver after that and thought I was hot stuff. This all started seven years ago. I ended up with 3 R's, 8 HM's, 2 SHM's, 1 semi,...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q3 - Volume 33

Nothing for me yet! I'm guessing that's a good thing!

My only other finalist was in Q3 VOl 22. I'm hoping that means I'll get a yearly round up circle?

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q2 - Volume 33

Also, do we put HM in our cover letters? Or only when we're submitting our HM/SHM stories? Is that a thing or is it unnecessary when submitting to markets? Putting my editor hat on: I think it's unnecessary. It doesn't tell me much: you basically still got a rejection, even if it was close. I would...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q2 - Volume 33

FWIW: My Q3 2015 Finalist call came on a Tuesday (Australian time) and this was at least two-three weeks after all the rejections had properly come in.
We may be in for a wait.

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q2 - Volume 33

For what it's worth, when I got my Finalist call it was on a Tuesday, around midday. And I live in Australia, so that would have been midnight UK and afternoon in the US on the Monday.

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q2 - Volume 33

Quick note: First off, something can be a totally amazing story and still "not right for WOTF". . This is very true. Except I wrote this story specifically for WOTF: I tried to appeal to Dave's sensibilities. I got three waves of critiquers to read the story, one of which had actually won...

Re: Hearing back about the published finalist...

Yeah, I imagined that some of the guys in Q1 and Q2 were less likely to ask for their stories to be held. Maybe it's not 1/20 after all. I get the impression, and this is just my impression, mind you, that because Q4 is so packed with stories, that the 4th place story is closer to a winner than say...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - Volume 33

Just a question: do you guys think it's better to submit much earlier rather than later? I'm feeling very confident about this story, and I have a niggling fear that if I've submitted it so very late Dave won't see it until the last few he reads, and by then he might have a good enough idea about th...

It definitely won't be til after Q4 judging is over. Last time it happened pretty fast. I know they contact you directly but I don't know if the not-chosen get phone calls or emails. As a note it won't be "19 other finalists", it'll be whichever they decided to hold for consideration. My ...
