Re: Discussion: Q1 Volume 36

I have my draft pinned down, so now it's all tweaking and refinements. Looking good to be ready to roll in time for the quarter close.

Re: 4 in 36

Yeah, this sounds like a fun idea to me -- I already have my Q1 underway, and a solid idea of what I'd like my Q2 to be too. Count me in.

Re: Discussion: Q1 Volume 36

Surely it's December 2018, though?

My entry for this one will just be the story I know won't be ready in time for Q4 v.35. That's simple, even if nothing else about this is...

Blargh, I'm not going to make the submission deadline this quarter. On the up side, I guess, that makes picking my story for the next quarter a no-brainer...

The "when" being "when he didn't have a job and had loads of time to write".

Ah, good times.

Re: Discussion: Q4 Volume 35

I'm working on revising a story I'd started on, the front 450 of which I bounced off Dustin a while back. Got swept up in other things, but kept thinking about his feedback, and the resulting revision (killing a transition) restaged the story and made the whole premise a lot more interesting... So n...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q3 - Volume 34

So, Q3 or Q4. That's my goal. I don't mind which really, so long as I nail one of them, and get this ball rolling properly again. Send me your 450! I'd love to -- I just have to figure out which 450 I should be sending you...I have 3 stories right now. I may end up sending you all three! I've been ...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q3 - Volume 34

I'm itching to get back into this -- I was riding high, but then suddenly got dropped into the horror of trying to get a new job . I'm just about at the end of all that, though, and once it's over, I'll actually have some normal, human free time. And more to the point, I might have enough emotional ...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - Volume 34

I'm finally finding my stride, at the end of a few crazy weeks -- the main question now is whether I can get this finished, polished, and critiqued in time to actually sub for this quarter. I'm going to give it a good ol' try, but I'd hoped to be further in than this by now.

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q2 - Volume 34

I doubt that'd be a crippling condition -- Steampunk lies somewhere between sci-fi and fantasy anyway, so as a genre it's a natural fit. If you do your best work in that genre, then I'd think you'd have the best chance of writing a winning story in it. And I would hope that at the end of the day, it...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q4 - Volume 33

I'd be tempted to paint up a Warhammer figurine with that banner, but unfortunately, I gave my army -- banner bearers and all -- to my brother, who had the advantage of living in the same country it was sitting in. That said, it would have been a rat-man, so not sure what that would have said about ...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q4 - Volume 33

That's exactly what I do, too. Re: Jibber Jabber - Q4 - Volume 33

I'd second that. I've seen Grinder stats that differ on the acceptance rates too, with Grinder's rates of acceptance typically higher than the real ones. I think that lends credence to the idea that, for the most part, the Grinder is used more often by writers who're taking their work seriously.

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - Volume 34

Everyone does that there, too -- people can always edit their posts, so as soon as the poster's gotten their story into the kind of shape they're aiming for, they take them down. It's intended to be a temporary way to get group feedback, though some people prefer to send copy directly to forum membe...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - Volume 34

I second all of this. The only forum I frequent that does online critiquing of stories does so in a locked forum -- you have to be a member to access it, which means that web spiders and suchlike don't find the work online. That's important, because for a lot of markets, even having your story publi...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q4 - Volume 33

I was hesitant about submitting to this quarter, but I've been so pushed back by other things that I didn't get anything in for the earlier quarters. I ended up submitting a story I'm not unhappy with, but I'd probably rate it weaker than my three previous entries, if I was looking closely at it. I ...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q4 - Volume 33

I'm going with a holding story for Q4, to get something in. I'm happy with the story, and editing it now -- the one I'd really like to submit is still a work in progress, and I don't think I'll have it finished and in a state that I'm happy with by the time Q4 closes. In the meantime, this story is ...
