Re: Jibber Jabber - Q4 - Volume 33

I think we're through the first pass now, so those remaining, given that they received receipt confirmation from Joni, can assume their story will get a full read. It boggles my mind that he will fully read something like 100 - 200 stories, if my math is right. Even if each story reading is quick (...

Commiserations on the early R's. If I get an R before Halloween, I'm going to print copies of my Rejected story and hand the pages out to trick-or-theaters. Healthier than candy, right? If I'm still in, going to carve a "yuge" twicthing pumpkin. Anyone know how to make a pumpkin twitch? I'...

Re: critters.org Manuscript Notifications

I've got a story up this week: Man, Dog, Robot. It's an overhaul of a previous version I ran through Critters. If you have time would especially appreciate any thoughts on how the story fits, or doesn't fit, with WOTF. It runs on satire and a pinch of crude humor. Not sure it fits the WOTF mold.

wotf055 HM with me too. Edited an 'R,' mostly the beginning and resubmitted it. Does it really mean top 3% of entries? Grinder says that 2.43% of entries are accepted so doesn't seem to line up. Congrats to those who placed, good luck to those still waiting, and see you in the next round. Hopefully ...

Re: What do you call these weapons?

You know those slider thinggies that some characters wear up their long sleeves and they slide guns out into both hands? Like at the end of Desperado? And like the bad guy from Justified season three? What do you call those weapons? I'm imagining a character who has those thinggies but uses daggers...

I have a story due out this week if anyone wants to take a look. I have to warn you though, it's a long one at 10K words. I see that Matt and Stewart have a story in the queue as well. I definitely want to look at that one wotf007 Thanks for the summer vacation reading, Aaron, Matt and Stewart. wot...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q3 - Volume 33

Seeking advice. Working to finish a story for Q3 but it's going slow. Could get it done and submit, or could take a slower track, send it out for critique in July, edit, then submit for Q4. Given that even small edits might make a difference in the end, I'm leaning toward the slower path, but wonder...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q2 - Volume 33

It's strange - I'm not twitching this quarter. Most likely a result of a low confidence in the story I submitted. To get it out of the way, I pre-report an "R" and heartily wish the twitchers the best of luck. wotf009

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - Volume 33

Grats George. Around two years ago I looked at my sig and saw 6HM. I said, I'm gonna aim for 10. That would be consistent. Then I got a SF, and a F. Skipped a few quarters, and changed my goal. Hey, I got finalist twice, I'm gonna aim for finalist! Two straight R. So I'm going back, and I'm going t...

Re: critters.org Manuscript Notifications

I have a story up this week, "S-----," under the name Z. Z. Ali [figured I shouldn't put the title just in case]. It's fantasy, written in the space of a day and it's been long enough now that I can't stand the sight of it, so would love some feedback if anyone feels like checking it out....

Thanks for connecting the dots Matt. I've been on Critters for 6 months and find it to be a great resource. My entry for this quarter is, ahem, 'different'. Hey, Muri Personally, I don't think you should read too much into it. We're about, what, 40 years too late for personal correspondence with editors, right? [I read in Tiptree's biography she'd just strike a conversation post-submission, and a friendship would be born] I don't think we can do that a...

If you have a typo, and Dave makes it a finalist, that same typo will go to the judges. I imagine they'd have the same level of forgiveness as Dave. Maybe more because they'd trust that he wouldn't send them something that is way off. This. Dave is reading thousands of stories, looking for reasons ...

My submission for this quarter did not come together yet so I ended up missing out entering this time. This is me often. I don't mind, though -- I'd rather submit less often, but be confident that the story I'm submitting is up to a standard I'm happy with, than rush the stories out. One thing I st...

Thanks for sharing the writing approaches. Not sure where I fall on the spectrum, but it feels like 90% of my writing time I spend beating my head against the wall - not too pleasant. Re: Five Minute Rant

Argh! Why can I write a 7,000 word story that I'm in love with, but can't come up with two or three words for a title that I don't despise? Someone should start a service where you can send them a story, and they'll come up with an awesome title for it. I would be their best customer. I love coming...
