Hi Amy, I'd like to add a few names. The list is distinguished, but (My apologies to Mr. Power) light in a certain area. Those who like F&SF know them all. Andre Norton, Ursula K. Le Guin, Anne McCaffrey, Connie Willis, C.J. Cherryh, Jane Yolen. All named Grand Master of science fiction by the S...

Re: Can you recommend a writing teacher?

Hi Jason, You need to supply two important pieces of information. 1. At what level do you currently write? 10=Established author, 5=Unpublished and have attended a few workshops, 1=Enthusiastic, total noob. 2. Where do you want to go? Do you wish to support yourself completely with your craft or do ...

Hi PhoenixHays, Rule #6, sentence 4 states: Entries submitted electronically must be double-spaced and must include the title and page number on each page, but not the author’s name. Re: Middle of the Night Writing

I also have a laugh box. Some nights I'm wrapped so tight that I feel my head might twist off and fly away. To prevent this, I write down jokes, memes and gifs that have made me laugh like an idiot and put them in a shoe box for future reference. Humorous stuff, whether mine or someone else's, helps...

I have notebooks full of brain poop! I figure it's in there weighing down the good ideas, so I shovel it out as fast as I can. Strange thing, though, some of the late night ideas have been judged good by trusted friends, so I keep them all. But I keep them in another room just in case there's a vibe...

Re: Conflict & Tension

Conflict derives from opposing forces, usually in the form of an obstacle to character goals. Communication is about shared meaning, which, for the purpose of fictional conflict, means that a reader will feel greater dramatic tension when they feel an emotional connection to the struggle. So in a se...

Stopped thinking and did a final read-through. Submitted. Fully plotted and half done with Q2 submission. Good luck, everyone!

Re: A plot B plot with different conflicts. and opposing forces for internal conflict (man against self)

Hi Henckel, I feel that two different types of conflict would lend themselves well to a two plot structure. Since the two protags meet at the end, I might have suggested it if you had not. Man vs. self (Missing WV, are we?), while relegated to sub-plot status in most genre fiction, is virtually alwa...
