Re: Drafting

I do multiple saves, but that's because my edits get very intense sometimes. I've added and deleted entire scenes in mid-draft before for multiple stories, and major changes like that are when I save a new mid-draft version. Sometimes a segment of prose that I deleted makes its way into another part...

I don't really have a good place to set up my own writing space right now, so I use noise cancelling headphones to help out with that. Yes, it probably is. So is WotF an appropriate publication for a YA story? Offhand, I can't recall reading any winning stories that were targeted for a predominantly YA audience.

The target audience is teenagers, though. It's hard to say.

Re: Submitting Honorable Mentions To Magazines

Honestly, it doesn't seem to help. Even having a semi-finalist story doesn't seem to help (I speak from experience). Finalist or better, I think, are the only things that really count as being worth mentioning in a cover letter.

Re: Finishing Stories

I don't finish all of the stories I start, but I'm working on upping my percentage. Revision is definitely an important skill to practice. I'll go through an average of three to four drafts with a story, but I'll often have partial revisions for a draft that I don't consider 'complete' yet. As such,...

Re: Success!

Simply based on what I've observed in the past, this thread is an informal place for celebrating with your peers and doesn't discriminate between pro, semi-pro, and token sales. A lot of people post when they first sell a story and again later to provide links or some such when the story goes public.
