Re: Discussion: Q1 Volume 36

John Goodwin, president of Author Services, said on an FB post that results should be in by the end of the month for Q1. Thursday cometh. Cool! I figured out my Q1 is doomed. I put it in before finding this forum and Dave's tips. Even if it were otherwise good enough (which I don't assume) there ar...

Re: How do you write eloquently?

Basic recommendations include: Read more. Write more. Edit what you've written. Read books about writing. Utilize a style guide when necessary. (The most important of all these steps is, in fact, the writing part. Practice, practice, practice.)

Making a submission this quarter is not going to happen. My recovery from knee surgery has progressed well but it's impact on my sleep has been substantial. Do things really have to get 'worse' or can the stakes simply be raised? Conflict comes in different packages. Stakes getting raised = things getting worse, essentially, in my opinion. Deep Magic explicitly says they're the dominant magazine for clean science fiction and fantasy, but I agree with Peony. Just because your story/writing is lighter doesn't mean markets that publish darker stuff won't like it. Your story might be the upbeat their issue needs, so send it anyway. (FYI ...
