Re: Can I submit stories I'm posting on my website?

If you were to submit them anywhere, you'd unfortunately have to do it as reprints. Publishing online, even to a tiny audience, counts as publishing.

Re: Critique exchange for a 3600 word half completed story

My personal recommendation would be to finish the first draft before getting a full-fledged critique. I'm suggesting this for a couple of reasons: Firstly, it will mean that the critiquer has a better idea of what direction you want to take the story in rather than potentially leaving them to guess ...

Re: Discussion: Q1 Volume 36

Hello, I'm pretty new to this contest so excuse the ignorance... but I wanted to know where you could see the theme for q1 2018. I'm an illustrator and I participated for the first time in q3 and got a honorable mention! So I wanted to try again. So I just wanted to make sure if we have a specific ...

R for me too. Deciding I really don't like the addition of the "still in the running" emails.... Same here. No sour grapes, don’t get me wrong! Just seems like a “still in the running” is totally incongruent with a flat-out R. Onward and upward! Now that Dave has help going through storie...

Welcome to the forum BLAlley. You are here so it is as it should be. Enjoy wotf007 . Since this is the only reply I've received I'm pretty sure I'm not welcome. Thanks anyway. Re: Do you resubmit?

I've resubmitted twice. Waited about a year between submissions for each story. My first story jumped from R fo SHM. My second story jumped from SHM to... another SHM. wotf019 It amuses me because I retooled some major aspects of that second story.

Re: Five Minute Rant

I read something somewhere along those lines today that really jumped out at me by Tobias S. Buckell: "So you have a pigeon in a box and you set up a machine to feed it a pellet when it smacks a lever. Said pigeon quickly learns that a single action equals reaction. But then, you change it up ...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - Volume 35

Can someone help me out? Let me see if I understand all this? The portal closed early for Q1 this year. They realized their mistake and allowed additional entries? Then this backlogged the results so they have not yet published the winners? Is this correct? Are there any websites up that have a lis...

Re: Reject Rejectomancy!

About a year and a-half ago I submitted what I thought was the best story I'd ever written. I thought it had everything it needed; the five senses, strong character interaction, strong plot, an emotional ending. Until the very end I thought it would definitely be accepted. Alas, it was a rejection ...

*case in point: Fireside opened for five days last week. Checking the Subs Grinder , which anecdotally captures about 10-20% of all subs made, they got at least 900 stories in those five days. WHAT. A text to speech program can help with spotting issues like that. Some word processors have them built in. Mine doesn't, so I use this one: https://www.naturalreaders.com/online/
