Re: Jibber Jabber - Q3 - Volume 34

For those who are worried about going over wordcount, it might be worth looking over your scenes and seeing if there's a way to combine the conflicts from multiple scenes into one shorter, more dramatic one. I ended up doing this by mistake when I was rewriting my first scene, and it a) made the fir...

Many of us have been published, not just enough to knock us out of the competition. We learn form each other too. Oh, I totally agree with that. I just think it's better to learn from people who have some "credentials" (e.g. some decent contest results, other publications, etc.). And that...

You'll only be defined by your winning piece if you allow yourself to be, continuing to write only in the way that you won with. I won with a fantasy, but that's not stopped me selling sci-fi. It's short fiction, so everyone expects range and variety anyway--and with WotF in particular, it's catego...

I really don't recommend duplicate submissions unless everyone involved offers a non-exclusive contract. Most magazines (including WotF, I do believe) want exclusive rights to your story for the first year. Submitting to multiple venues at the same time will usually get you a bad name in the publish...

I can't tell you whether that idea is taboo or not because I don't know.
