Re: Mixed Viewpoint Styles Across Characters

I vote that it would be jarring and likely knock the reader out of the story. Could it be done? Possibly, but I'd bet it's hard to do well. If you are considering leaving this character in present tense, I'd ask: Is there a compelling reason why this character would be presenting their POV in a pres...

That is a good portion of the battle. Editor's tastes and preferences are important, especially when the competition is as fierce as it is here.

It was a strange twist of fate that those souls on the WotF forum were the first to realize Skynet had become self aware... they were not, unfortunately, the last.

FWIW I just got another email from Joni confirming my Q2 entry was received (I was one of the glitch/email 3/31 entries). She wrote "We will have results in about a month from now."

Adjust twtichiness as you deem appropriate.

Incoming. The Grinder is showing one rejection. Long live Thursday! Seems odd that it's just one rejection, and nobody on here has mentioned one either (maybe we're all that good). Anyone else thinking there's a chance it's an error? The Grinder reports user input. GIGO as old programmers say. Or a...

Re: Sci-Fi and Fantasy Books You Enjoy?

I'm doing Scott Lynch's books right now. Starts with "The Lies of Locke Lamora," and I'm in book 2, "Red Seas Under Red Skies." They're awesome books and also interesting to read as a student of writing for all the "rules" he breaks. He uses passive voice. He uses flash...

I'm so excited I finally get to post in here. My Heroic Fantasy submission to Flame Tree Publishing got picked up for publication! I'm not familiar with the Submission Grinder, where it says "Pending Responses" is that the # of logged submissions not yet reported as accepted or rejected?

Progressive Chunk Exchange

As we progress through the quarter, it might be nice to swap increasingly large chunks of our stories before we get to crunch time. Does anyone have interest in doing this? I'm not sure what the best length cut offs are, but a few folks swapped first 450s and it was very helpful, I'd be open to doin...

wotf024 Hello everyone. This was my first entry to WOtF, and I got an Honorable Mention. I've poked around the board, but can't figure out exactly what this means. Is this something you would include in a cover letter? Or is it more of a moral-booster? Many thanks! I've seen people describe Honorab...

Well there's no languishing in submission limbo at Lightspeed. Got the rejection two days after submitting. The guidelines say you can submit one piece every seven days, so maybe I'll line up for more punishment in a few days.
