Re: Developmental Editor

Spencer Ellsworth is an excellent writer and excellent person, and currently open to work: http://spencerellsworth.com/editing-proofreading-services/ (I thoroughly recommend his space opera trilogy, btw, currently A Red Peace + Shadow Sun Seven with Memory's Blade out next month. This month? Soon, ...

Re: Developmental Editor

I know of some editors even though they cost. I could give you E-mail or web pages addresses. But I have need for a beta reader or two. One for a novel just sitting there for a month or two, revised and everything, and one for a novel I will be finishing very shortly, if I can get the very end the ...

Re: Developmental Editor

Brittany, Developmental or professional? Like, someone to work with you on ideas, or final-stages? I owe you some pages, but I'm not at the pro level, so if you're ready for that I can recommend my wife... She has a minimum of 100 pages, and tends to be the one folks turn to when they are ready to ...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q4 - Volume 34

Has anyone received their certificates yet from Q4? This was my first HM and I'm super excited. It's like a late Christmas present, only I'm not sure when I should expect to get it. ~Morgan Not yet. I'm sure things have been busy with the holidays. wotf017 I'm sure they'll be out before too long th...

Developmental Editor

How do you guys go about finding a professional editor? I have a novelette I need to revisit, but I'll also have a novel (hopefully) in a couple months. I've used a copy editor I found on Facebook one time, but I think I want a developmental editor. Any resources out there? Recommendations? Thanks f...

I sent my entry in last minute via email. I had high hopes of sending in a day or two early to avoid this, but I kept revising. wotf017 Oops! I am grateful that Joni is so understanding though. Joni's awesome. Hail Joni.

Re: Magical Realism?

I thoroughly recommend getting your stories reprinted at audio markets, because hearing them read out is an amazing experience. I hated one story I'd sold until I heard Tina Connolly reading it , and now I love it.
hahaha it makes an awesome cheesy film poster! And I'll keep that^^^ in mind ...

Re: Magical Realism?

I'm for sure going to put together a bit of a diary/journal thing on the winning experience. I won't be the first to do it, but if it helps anyone it's worth it, right? Don't reckon on getting anything written up during the week, you'll be too busy! But keep notes about each day, because by the tim...

Re: Magical Realism?

So my 3rd for Q4? A rejection from somewhere else. That editor didn't have a place for it. Dave and the judges here did. At some point if it's good (and your stuff is good), it's a question of fit.
Thanks. I think the fit thing is a reality in this business. And congrats BTW for winning thir...

Re: Magical Realism?

One cool thing about the contest is you have room to experiment because it runs every quarter. If it doesn't win you don't necessarily have a broken story. You can find it a home elsewhere, and in the meantime you learn something about your own writing and something about the contest. You're right!...

I won with magical realism, albeit in an historical setting. And speaking from a PodCastle perspective (where I slush), "speculative element in the real world" absolutely counts as fantasy for our purposes. Personally I usually find it more interesting than secondary world, especially if ...

Magical Realism?

I've written a short story and the only *label* I can come up with would be magical realism (could have that wrong). I'd like to submit it here, but then, I'm not sure it quite constitutes fantasy. There is a speculative element that hits you right at the front, but the story almost seems too "...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q4 - Volume 34

Quick question: do the certificates for Silver HM look the same as the reg HM? I think they're pretty close. I just got mine in the mail. I've only entered the contest twice before (1 R, 1 SHM) but from what I can tell from online photos, it looks the same... minus that it says Sliver Honorable Men...
