Re: Novel Structure - About Turning Points

From this, I am assuming that you only only put your turning points at the end of a chapter and before the break. If that is correct, then that answers my question. Also, I didn't suggest that every chapter has a turning point. Every scene must have a reversal so chapters can have multiples of those...

The original question was:

“What is your preferred placement of the major Turning Points around chapter breaks?”

I don’t understand your answer. Can your elaborate?

Granted, I haven't won this thing yet, but it's not for my lack of color. wotf019

I’d like to read a finalist piece that uses color well.

Please send it to me.

Thank you.

Re: Covers

In my current novel, I have opposing asian dragons - one red and one gold. But the gold one is a false gold (thereby a false god) and the villain pretending to be sacred. The red dragon always wears something red when in human form and I don’t let any other character wear red - unless it foreshadowi...

Re: Accents/Diacritics and Pinyin

I only italicize “foreign language” words if the speakers accent changes. Many times, Bilingual people will switch accents with words that are specific to that language and without an english equivalent, but if there is, they may just use whatever english-accent they have. My friend calls a burrito ...

Re: Covers

What you are discussing is called “Color Theory” and how it relates to “The Visual Hierarchy”. Since colors are exclusively an illusion processed in the brain based on EM wavelengths, how humans react to colors are lart biological and part social construct. Unless someone has dramatically different ...

Re: Novel Structure - About Turning Points

You mean in the books we write or read? But in reading hmm, never really thought about it. Most chapters seem to end in a major Turning Point, if I understand that term correctly. A lot of times in some form of cliffhanger but sometimes just a change of direction or POV. I posted this under the top...

Novel Structure - About Turning Points

Turning Points are the most critical of a stories many reversals (which may have dozens of medium and small ones). Some Turning Points can be called “Disasters” or “Fails”, depending on the formula one uses. What is your preferred placement of the major Turning Points around chapter breaks? For exam...

Re: Novel Structures - Pros and Cons

Thank you. Your comments resonate with what I was hoping for - that structure SHOULD be content dependent and not overrule content. Unfortunately, I’m still networking to find readers and crit-shares where we share enough of the same language to be compatible. Writing and critting are different skil...

Novel Structures - Pros and Cons

Hi, There are so many ways to structure a "good" novel, and lots of advice from different directions on which sells more, that I'm hoping the experience on this forum can narrow the field - even its simply a poll. As a thread, I assume others will post their own questions, too. ---- Questi...

Finished writing the Flash for UNSTOPPABLE FORCE.

Really fun exercise. Do we share them? Crit them? Or is it just for ourselves?

Re: Wulf Moon's SUPER SECRET Bonus Challenge!

I hope the Super Secrets give you some good pointers--they focus on things I had to learn before I was able to win Writers of the Future. I designed them to shave off years of trial and error figuring out the specific things one must meet in their stories to satisfy the first reader, coordinating j...

Re: Wulf Moon's SUPER SECRET Bonus Challenge!

Hi Wulf & Co.,

Just finished my Q1 sub 2nd draft and finally got feedback from a published friend of mine that they think it's ready.
Wish me luck.

Now to get on Q2-Q4 and going to read this thread to see what you have going that I can join in on.

Re: Introducing the New Illustration Workshops in 2017

Hi, it's been awhile. Mostly because the illustrators have found the FB group more easily incorporated into their daily lives.

Also, I'm not sure if I ever got any notices that there were posts here to respond to - so please add more and I will watch for them (maybe fell into SPAM?).

This is frustrating. I am doing everything correctly and the Avatar link keeps flagging the error: "The URL you specified is invalid." Well the URL is perfectly valid: http://www.chernik.com/images/LazGray_100x100.gif and the image is within the specifications: 100px X 100px, and under 6k ...

Introducing the New Illustration Workshops in 2017

Hello! This is Lazarus Chernik. Echo Chernik (the new Coordinating Judge for Illustration) and I created a complete new worksop curriculum for 2017. It doesn't look like this forum has been used much since 2015, so maybe we can start things rolling again. Hello. If you are actively following this, p...
