Re: Jibber Jabber - Q4 - Volume 34

Somehow knowing he has his list down to 21 is more terrifying than just waiting for the email haha. There is no way mine is in that stack. I can't picture it. I wonder how many in that pile are from the forums though. Thanks for the update, it's nice that Dave shares news at conferences. I'm in exa...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q4 - Volume 34

I always appreciated getting details from others who have heard from Dave in person at different events, so it is in that spirit that I share this gleaned tidbit with you lovely forum folks. I hope this isn't giving too much away, but I don't think it is... Today in class Dave mentioned he's got thi...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q4 - Volume 34

Not to increase the twitch factor, but Dave is teaching a workshop this weekend, so he may not be reading/judging/getting results out for us folks because of this. Also, I'm going to the workshop! I'm a little nervous to meet someone in person who has been (unknowingly) reading my stories for a coup...

Re: Go for the novel? Or stick with the short story?

So - I've never had anything published and consider myself a relative newbie to this whole writing life. I'm working on a short story for Q2 - it's a pretty awesome concept - not even sure yet if I have the chops to pull it off - but I'm trying - and it's starting to seem like maybe there's actuall...

Re: Four in Thirty-Five (4 in 35!)

I wanted to share some gratitude. Hope no one minds too much ;) One of the many things this contest has done for me, is it keeps me writing. Every quarter since I started entering I have written and submitted a new story (2.5 years now), and from it I have also learned many new things. Things that h...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q3 - Volume 34

Just heard back from Joni. I'm not a winner, but they did ask to hold my story for potential inclusion in the anthology. Also, Tim Powers apparently loved it, so I'm pretty darn geeked about that. wotf007 Aww Peony, I'm sorry. Although, maybe this is more exciting. You'll get to go as a PF this go-...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q4 - Volume 34

Except for the obsessive polishing I tend to do, my Q4 story is done. I waited too long to get it onto Critters, so would love to do some story exchanges, as I can no longer see the story for the trees. I did PM those of you who mentioned you were looking for swap partners, but the more the merrier....

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q3 - Volume 34

I just heard from Joni. HM for me. wotf014 After coming so close in the past, this was a letdown, as I thought this one had a better chance than my others. As is well known, the author is the worst critic of their own work. Onward to the next story. Don't feel too bad, Laurie. There can be a gazill...

Joni giggled.

I got SECOND PLACE! *happy dance*

If I understand correctly, that removes me as a contender for the Golden Pen, which means I can officially stop twitching and kick back until April.

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q3 - Volume 34

And since we're talking about typos, maybe this is a good time to mention that text reader programs do read out what you've written whereas when you read it through you read what you think you've written. Alternative is getting a helpful friend to read it for you, or even, some say, to reading it a...
