Did you have to send your story to Joni in an email because the site was down? If not, sounds like you might have a semi finalist.

Re: Discussion: Q1 Volume 36
On the “is it worth revising discussion”, I think that: * a rejection usually means Dave has read two pages, and has found enough wrong with it that he won’t read further. If you really believe in your story and want dave to read and judge the whole thing, you need to completely rework your opening ...

Re: Discussion: Q1 Volume 36
If they are talking about q1 in the podcast, that means finalists have probably been notified. Joni usually calls finalists before the stories go out to the guest judges. Jury duty may have thrown things out, of course, but I expect that Joni is just prioritising email notifications last. Also, I wr...

Re: Discussion: Q1 Volume 36
I think in that case the stories were withdrawn right before judging - they drew on the semi-finalists so they’d have 8 stories for the guest judges.

I think it is good to be mentally prepared. Sometimes results come earlier than you expect, and an R-Grenade in your email is a nasty shock if you're not ready. That's why I always check the forum before checking my emails in the morning.

Well, it’s not impossible that we get results today. My phone call was on a Saturday right about now.*

Right... about ... now ...

*Australian time, of course.

Re: Discussion: Q1 Volume 36
Expectomancy! Nice! This is how I think it goes at the moment: 1. Finalists get a phone call. They are asked not to share on the internet yet. 2. The first waves go out on email over a few days - includes R, HM ,SHM. There doesn’t seem to be a clear order or anything. 3. Semi finalists wait a week o...

Just got my results - semi finalist. I know intellectually it is a great result, but I’m still really disappointed. I was beginning to think I might actually be a finalist.

Re: Discussion: Q4 Volume 35
Yes, fingers crossed! Although I take the submissions grinder results with a pinch of salt, because it also claims there are two acceptances, which just isn’t possible at this point in the competition. It all depends on how users are managing their data.

Re: Discussion: Q4 Volume 35
Yeah, my experience has been that q4 has come out really fast of recent years - presumably so they have plenty of time to organise the gala, and give the q4 illustrators time to work.

I'd reply, even if it's just to say thanks for the update. But probably I'd ask if they have any idea of what the approximate timeframes might be.

Re: Flame Tree seeking short stories
I have a Time Travel story in. Unfortunately I think it breaks a cardinal time travel rule, but oh well, its my first time travel story. Did you guys see the single rejection on the grinder a few days ago? For a moment, I was very excited, absolutely certain that a wave of rejections was about to be...

Seems like it might include Urban Fantasy, which is good. Does anyone know how long the fantasy submissions are open for? I have a story that will be out for crit until the first week of May.
