Re: Websites (This one's not spam, I swear)

If you're looking more on the "already built" side of things, Wordpress.com has their free offerings which can be easily updated to use a custom URL, though you'll pay real money for it at that point. Personally, I've grown fond of Medium lately. They offer custom domain linking as well, w...

Re: Why Do You Write?

Some fast writers use ghostwriters, some don't. Some fast writers ARE ghostwriters. They have enough time in their schedules to make money on the side. Some great art is written quickly. Some is written slowly. (Some schlock is written quickly, some slowly.) All you can do is find your own way. I'd...

Having seen pictures of SHM and owning a few HM awards, I can confirm that they're exactly the same in design and layout.

Form vs Personal Rejection

Hey folks... my newb might be showing, but I realized today that I'm not entirely sure what constitutes a switch from Form Rejection to Personal Rejection. Most form rejections are pretty obvious: "Thank you for submitting, but we've decided not to publish your story at this time. Good luck on ...

Re: Success!

So, a few questions for you successful folks: On average, how many stories do you have out? And how do you decide where to submit them? How many rejections does a story go through before you rewrite it? I have this fear that I'll submit a story to the big venues before it's ready and then I won't b...

Re: Success!

Just wanted to thank you all for the inspiring stories. I'd shelved my fiction submissions for awhile (new job), but your stories and updates gave me the boost I needed to get an old honorable mention back out into a submission.

Thanks!

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q4 - Volume 34

I am so close to submitting. I don't think there is much more I can do with this story. I hope I don't get an R on this, after landing my first HM. There's certainly a point where you have to stop working on any story for awhile, so don't feel too weird about it. Also, next quarter submissions star...

Tangentially related to writing success... my first self-published book, Immortal, just got me my first real, career-based writing job. After 17 years in IT, I get to write for a living and leave tech troubleshooting to others.

Re: Writing Room/Office/Space

I am super envious! I work so much better when I can take brain breaks to look at nature. Right now I'm living in a dense suburb, which is a little rough. The dream is to move out to a slightly more rural school district once I have my teaching degree. It's totally worth the hours of mowing and rid...

Re: Writing Room/Office/Space

Currently, I have a desk off the living room (large central living space). My wife is a CEO of a small company and travels a lot, so I end up monopolizing the area most of the time. When she's home and working, we tend to use the same space since we both tend to enjoy listening to instrumental music...

Do we have to use Google Docs? Have they removed the 'we own a % of what you create with it' clause from the Terms of Service? I have a fully functional copy of Word, and I reluctantly put things on Dropbox as it is, as I don't like Cloud storage at all. You don't need to use Google Docs, no. I als...

There is an embedded attachment option that works okay. However, there are Dropbox and Google Docs plugins that can be used in conjunction with Slack now. Those will probably come in handy more than the drag and drop methodology.
